#GBC Power light flashes and hear pop sound trying to turn on

Got gifted a Pikachu and pichu GBC

When I added batteries the power light flashes and I hear the speaker sorta pop … my first thing I’m gonna do is clean the power switch but besides that and checking fuses what should I do ??

Looks like the tried to re do the trace but now after taking off the cap it looks worse 😦

Salvageable ??

c38 is related to sound and not power :) But yeah it looks iffy

Surprisingly it looks okay besides that cap but Yeah once I get home I’ll take some photos

C32 has continuity which I believe shouldn’t … but it gets worse haha

Uhm that regulator looks funky. And it looks like someone has been in the power switch. How are your soldering skills?

the inductor on the regulator is cracked and is your power issue. the busted C38 is your audio issue

someone went for replacement caps and has ruined a lot of it

For arguments sake … if I replace the regulator and the replace the c38 cap adding a jumper cable from where the busted pad is to EM1 would that fix it ?

Also need to sus what’s happen with c32 as in continuity it’s giving me a result

C32 is on the VDD5 voltage rail. we have schematics in the wiki linked above

i would remove the regulator and see if C32 is still shorted. it could be a transformer short from it being cracked

Time to buy a new regulator … any recommendations?

Frogulator is the only one that comes prebuilt. If you want an OEM regulator let me know, I have a bunch and don’t mind shipping you a couple if you’re in the US
