Ok scratch everything. I took it apart, reassembled and now it seems to be working. I think the button tester roms does that when any combination of buttons are pressed. I got the OSD pulled up. My sel button is just very hard to press.

that sounds like a problem I had with mine. I swapped out the membrane and it worked. you might just ahve a shitty start/sellect membrane.
