Hey guys I have Makho battery mod I bought for my GBA SP from retro modding shop I have fully refurbished the console from scratch the mods are as followed.

New Power Inductor
New Capacitor
Power Cleaner aka Dehum Kit
Clean Amp Pro
Funnyplaying IPS
Custom Power Leds
USB Type C Mod

My issue is that Makho battery doesn’t work at all was able to use it maybe twice and it was a huge hit or miss when that was the case. Been using my OEM battery fine without problems but try Makho battery and it won’t work don’t know what else to test cleaned the contact board, scratched the contacts on the board, even soldered the pads and nothing doesn’t work at all.

I know the battery is not dead since I fully charged it before hand when I was able to get it to work the first time but now it shows no life lol so idk what else to do I’ve even replaced the battery cables and nothing. I know is not the power switch since I’ve been using my console fine with the stock battery as well so most of the things I can think of I have tried at this point.

Did you measure the output of the Mahko battery?

torpid barn
#

Yeah output is fine

What voltage are you getting?

torpid barn

Let me retest to give an accurate number

gleaming saddle
#

Did you try cleaning the contacts on the PCB with isopropyl alcohol?

post a picture of the battery bay with my battery installed

3.92v

It’s a super simple mod. The battery connects to the PCB and the pads delivery the voltage to the SP. The only points of failure are the battery, connector, or not having enough pressure on the tabs in the SP.

#

Picture like Makho asked 😄

I also used a fiberglass pen worked for a day then it stopped again might be a bad pcb board but truly don’t know

gleaming saddle
#

You can easily figure that out with your meter

proper swift
#

I’m not familiar with it but does it take any form of bracket or shim? Id assume it’s not getting enough contact

gleaming saddle
#

Continuity. Does it get beeps? You tested the voltage from the pads?

#

If you’re not pressing in the springs you’re not getting good contact.

torpid barn
gleaming saddle
#

You said that’s from retro modding?

torpid barn
#

I get contact as I mentioned it works just when it wants to

#

I modded the contacts and it worked but it’s not a consistent fix

gleaming saddle
#

Did you pinch and break one of the wires? I see a tight bend there.

I solders some 2DS contacts on it and nothing

torpid barn
gleaming saddle
#

Is that solder on those pads? Or is that from the fiber glass pen?

torpid barn
#

I’ve redone the points on the board every single time with no success

solemn owl

stop

#

all of you

torpid barn
solemn owl
#

is the PCB solid in place or does it fall out if you tip the console

torpid barn
#

I also tried it with the 3D printed bracket to make sure it did contact didn’t work either

solemn owl
#

really because it looks like you took a chunk out of the side of the board

torpid barn
#

I tried the battery separately from the board works fine my issue might probably be a board problem

solemn owl
#

and this revision is not compatible with any brackets

#

you also did a number on the contacts and that's not helping you

#

the board is designed to be wedged into place

#

the battery does not hold it

#

the battery door does not hold it

It came like that I assume it was just excess clean up idk 🤷‍♂️

#

Same as that piece

solemn owl
#

that's not how they come

torpid barn
#

Also came like that

#

Well my apologies but at least mine did just want to understand the issue

solemn owl
#

the issue you are describing matches the symptoms of a known issue with the IPS ready shells

torpid barn
#

Is not doing anything on the negative so I assume that is not an issue

solemn owl
#

the issue is that the boards are designed to be wedged into place and the tolerances are just all out of wack with those shells

#

it's an extremely simple board, literally just two copper lines

#

I’ve done this mod before a few times and haven’t really had issues

#

So is not the first one just wanted to know if I may have received a bad bash of the board or if is just an issue with the battery

#

Considering testing the battery alone is fine that’s ruled out

solemn owl
#

No one here is mad or "heated"

#

if you've already ruled out the battery, which it sounds you have based on measuring it with a meter, and already ruled out the console with another battery, that simply leaves the board

#

I see issues with the board and I've offered a likely solution

torpid barn
solemn owl
#

like I said, the symptoms you describe and the pictures you've posted are consistent with a mechanical issue with the fitment

torpid barn
#

Understood I will move to another battery thanks for the help

solemn owl
#

it's not so much the battery itself but the board

gleaming saddle
#

Super easy way to rule out the board and the battery. That board looks toast though.

#

It looks like the contacts were soldered and filed down. If you get a reading where I showed, it’s a fitment issue, like Makho said.

south marsh
#

the board is screwed regardless, since it has solder on the contacts

gleaming saddle
#

Once those contacts have solder on them it’s RIP.

@solemn owl forgot to post this was the mod I mentioned I used with the battery btw
