Hey folks. I have a GBC Teal I got from a friend of mine (US) and it seems the contacts are dirty on either the game or the console. What's the best way to clean them without opening the device (s) up? Thanks.

If opening the device isn't an option, it's best to leave the contacts dirty

Problem is, the Game Boy cart that I have doesn't run in it, and I tried cleaning it with IPA and a paper towel like my friend told me to, and I'm waiting to see if it works.

#

I hope it's the cart, in which case the problem should be solved

Aye, wait for it to fully dry and give it a shot

#

If that fails, your next step is buying some screwdrivers

Yep

#

I'll probably think about modding it too in that case

You can also use a q-tip with IPA to clean the contacts on the cartridge, no need to open it

#

Gets better contact than a paper towel

i'll see if there's q-tips around

I was more referring to the cart reader on the system in regards to opening

#

But yes

No Q-Tips 😦

Best to fully research and equip before doing anything

#

As Froggo said, a q-tip and IPA is the go-to for cleaning the game itself

#

If that fails, this is step 2

You should get a gamebit to open up the game and properly clean it as well, the ifixit mako kit will last a lifetime and is only $35

#

Otherwise, those generic $20 "120 in one" amazon kits will work, but they're cheap steel and arent the greatest fit

also how long does it take to dry usually

#

once cleaned with IPA

Depends on the percentage, but anything 70%+ should be dry within 1-2 minutes unless you drown the thing

Well, it worked. It's singing.

It even SAVES.
