high altitude jet
I've been sitting on this design for a while since I still have a lot of plans for it, but I'll just post those when I finish the space-shuttle version.
@faint hemlock for their planes which were a big inspiration for this jet
@hallow dust for their airships since the tiny bit of deco (and some of the vibes) in this jet was also inspired by their posts
The wings folding out are actually not just for style, as it moves the point of lift enough for adjusting to variable weight being carried under the ship based on attachments. The wings on the landing gear can be used for micro-adjustments too, meaning you'll get arrow-straight flight with pretty much anything strapped to its belly. This also allows for a more maneouverable "jet" and a more slow and stable "glider" mode, though the 4 "cannon" angles are pictured below.
I was playing around with having the wings as spinoff bearing attachments, but the "swappable wings" is something I will communicate with the sister-plane having different ones. Plus you can still do it very easily using create schematics.
The gyro is not used for actual flight, as it hurts the flying quite a lot, but will be useful for autopilot and space-launch applications.
It's also meant to be high-altitude, but as you can see in a video I will post in the comments, VS doesn't really allow for this rn, maybe if I update to 2.4.11 it would be better, dunno
Oh and it does vertical takeoff because of the landing gear. It also can do almost vertical landing, just by merit of the small micro-adjustment rotors, the brake propeller in the back, and some piloting finesse.
WIP:
spinoff bearing attachments (rn we just have the refueling cartridge, but planned are guns, extended radar, bombs, attachment points for carrying ships, etc.)
lodestone navigation/autopilot
space-shuttle sister "plane" for launching satellites
