should do
for starters you need to pair it with the transmittor
right click the engine controler with the transmitter and then place the transmittor on the engine
then check your keybind settings in the tfmg section
and set them to whatever you desire, the gearshift in the engine controler doesn't work.
shift clicking the engine controler will show with a link UI to use with the create redstone links
if you wish to use "drive by wire" instead of chunky links there is a build of dbw that allows compat with the engine controler (and also somewhat allows the transmission gear to actuly be usefull)

what is v n c set to for you?
for me my tfmg engine controler keybinds are set to the numpad, transmission up being 8, down being 2, and 5 being the start and stop
and then i just have the special that was set to r for reverse before i discovered the dbw compat build

it was intended for gear changing and reverse
but ultimatly didnt work
also the dbw build has its own way around the buggy transmission aswell
