Instant world crash when assembling ship helm on VS Sails

I'm on Fabric 1.20.1 using VS Clockwork & Sodium, complete mod list can be provided if needed. Once I placed a ship wheel on a helm this immediately happened

Additionally I can reopen the world and the helm is assembled and now works fine, but I intend on running a small server with these mods and I don't want it crashing whenever someone builds a ship helm

it also puts me in the multiplayer menu after it crashes for some reason
