#Better Crumbling?

Okay, so there’s two things I’d want.

1: If a chunk of a non-physics entity becomes unsupported (ie, a building getting the lower floors exploded) the unsupported portion becomes a physics entity and falls.
1a: (Optional) After a few seconds of not moving, the destruction physics entities return to being blocks to reduce performance load.

2: When disconnected, physics entities split (ie. a plane getting a wing blown off, and instead of the remains floating in air attached to the plane, they become their own physics entities) I know about VS Crumbles, but that doesn’t work well with larger ships, and if you change the config, it can break smaller ships.

#

Idk how feasible any that would be, so feel free to flame me, lol.

only prob i can see with this is the lag. if u make it so that u need a specific block on the ship to stop them despawning, then missiles and stuff will be less feasible, but if u dont, ur pc tries to kill u

hmm

#

that'd be cool

#

altho like u said, idk how possible it would be

#

no

#

ur getting ship splitting and ur gonna be happy abt it

final bobcat
#

hmm

#

yea alr

#

makes sense

  1. is called ship-splitting, and will be in VS2.5
#
  1. would definitely be possible as an addon, but I don’t see it ever being added to base VS

Couple questions about this one.
A: Will the main ship retain its own slug, or will it change when splitting?
B: Is there a size limit to the splitting, or can I use this as a way to reduce some of the lag on my mega carriers when not in active use?
C: Can detachment be automated? As in, I have a system of deployers that assemble an object on a ship, connected by a single block, and a piston retracts the block, making it split?

So uh… quite the boost

#

No offence to krunch

deep arch
#

it only tanked phys TPS by half

#

and then calmed down once the ships stopped moving and fell asleep

weak cave
#

(oh thank fuck)
And I'm assuming the optimizations extend to massive ships as well?

deep arch
#

what was an entire chunk

#

and it didn't lag

#

so yeah

weak cave
#

Multiple region file ships are now a possibility!

#

Let's go!

hazy atlas
#

I mean… they were possible before with enough ram trollface

weak cave
#

(Buddy, I don't have a PC that costs about as much as the US GDP)

hazy atlas
#

Technically lod makes very very large ships not terrible for performance

#

But it causes issues… so is usually cranked up

DDR4 200gb's for 40 bucks is pretty common here, companies prefer to sell stuff than dispose of it as its cheaper

#

and since nobody buys it except for me and like 5 people then they keep prices low

#

its more of ,,help me not pay for disposal'' than ,,buy it from me''

#

Radeon VII 16gb, i got it for the price of weekly groceries

😮

#

I got a whole server with two CPU's (40 threads each) and it costed me a little less than my used ebike

#

People don't buy them because they are hungry for power, and people don't know about them, the first problem gets solved easily since its more and more common for even poor families to have solars

ECC Ram is super cheap

frosty tree
#

32 gb cost me ~160 dillar

hazy atlas
#

bro what 😭

#

I got like 32 for my PC for like $20 I think

#

actually I don't remember it might've been more like $80

#

but still less than $160

WHERE THE HELL DO YOU ALL LIVE

hazy atlas

(it was 2x 16 GB)

(Because I need to move there!)

USA

weak cave
#

sigh

hazy atlas
#

also it might've been used RAM

#

not brand new

#

but I don't think it matters that much?

#

unless RAM gets worse with use I'm not sure 🤔

#

honestly I'm kinda clueless when it comes to computer hardware

#

like why do all CPU's sound like they use a different rating system (I understand none) 😭

frosty tree
#

everything is expensive as hell

hazy atlas
#

ebay 3dsmile

#

I also only upgrade my PC like

#

once every 2 years clueless

#

and never to the latest and greatest

#

just to the slightly less budget

frosty tree
#

risk of getting a brick instead💔

when cpu: Intel server cpu's are generally really really affordable for what they pack

#

Dell makes proprietary parts for their Pc's, so they are less modyfiable, but if that's no concern to you

#

Buy a dell workstation

vernal crypt
#

Pretty reliable, but if you are not in poland, then its no concern to you as they don't ship abroad

#

If you are from here, you know what im talking about, if you are not, then it wont be of use to you either way

bro is being very vague clueless
