#Corroding and damage for sunken ships
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
and any parts that are not connected to the actual ship should seperate and become their own entity, allowing this to be recreated in minecraft
Me recovering a big chunk off of my ship, M.H.S. Melotania.
and finally
most obviously:
With my idea of any parts not connected becoming their own entities, this recreation of the break-up scene from the 1997 film "Titanic" should be much easier than completely rebuilding the stern of the ship.
Followed up by the fact that any ice block should be able to break the part of the ship that it touches, however doing so like a pickaxe and using the block breaking animation/texture as well in the process.
and also
something that has annoyed me since the beginning of time
if you make a large structure, it immedietly sinks, even without any openings.
If you didn't know why the ships sink and how they float,
watch Oceanliner Designs' video.
Ever wonder why ships don't just sink like a stone? Ever wondered how ships, even massive ones, are able to float on water? It all comes down to a simple but powerful concept: buoyancy. From Archimedes' Principle to the design of hulls and displacement theory, we will break down the physics that make it possible for ships to stay afloat.
00:...
But the reality is that this would be really annoying for most players, since your submarine or whatever would start dissolving over time. Its a cool idea, but also probably should be its own optional addon
yeah, or maybe some specific thing for corrosion, maybe without some block (eureka helm?)
Well, certain materials should have different corrosion rates (and may also have different corrosion states). Waxed copper blocks (and hardened planks from Create: The Factory Must Grow) for example, should barely corrode at all, compared to their unwaxed versions, which corrode easily.
maybe make it a mechanic to need a sacrificial anode
to prevent stuff from corroding
I'm saying that maybe we add an AI that detects the ship's angle and list position tyo determine if it is sinking, and they only dissolve if there are openings (Closed trapdoors dont count but open trapdoors do) but if you are in a submarine, then if you're 12,500 feet below water then you'll implode (Just like Titan, a Titanic viewing sub) but yes if it has openings and a very far ahead or astern lean or a far Port or Starboard list, then once it hits a surface, it corrodes
Meanwhile, ships out of wool:
I built summa those
but they actually floated
That is weird
I built Olympic class
Because yes, wool is light, but when it's NOT wet!
Feature request:
make a wool soaking system
nooooooooo Southblockton Harbour map.....
P̶l̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ d̶o̶n̶'̶t̶
i sold it on planetminecraft now itll die
me sitting while shipless
also if we do wool boats start sinking....
what purpose do these S.S. Titanic Lifeboats serve
ok so
you want an ai
smart enough to decide if a ship is sinking or not
and you want said ai to constantly run
imagine trying to get rocm or cuda to run in a minecraft mod efficeintly💀
Ai is such an overused thing now, like it's not very easy to make one that sophisticated lol let alone run simultaneously in mc
just use conway
Maybe adding a new durable block that does this? could be interesting for design stuff
yes precisely
thats... not feasable and would lag minecraft so much more than vs physics already does
Only checks when a ship is present near a danger that can possibly sink the ship
When ship is in safe spot
AI chills
define “a danger that can possibly sink the ship”
- Iceberg
- TNT
- Whirlpool (Realistic Water Mod)
- Bows, Crossbows, & Skeletons
- Torpedo
- Piston (Could be part of a vanilla torpedo-like redstone contraption device)
- Another Ship
- A Plane
define a torpedo, plane and ship
the algorithm needs to detect if something is one of those
how would that work?
Another Ship= Another VS type Entity
A Plane= A Flying VS Entity
A Torpedo= Flying Machine (Redstone Device)
oh?
so the algorithm has to constantly run
any time a ship is close to another ship
which is
most of the time
Within close enough range to strike the ship (10 blocks)
Within close enough range to follow= no
but yes when it is close enough to strike
if i shoot a ship with a cbc cannon from 20 blocks away
and it sinks
then does that mean the sinking ai shouldn’t kick in?
Should detect all harmful entities within certain range
if i board a ship
and break it with a pickaxe
and it sinks
should the sinking ai not kick in?
this would be better as an addon than an actual feature in the base mod imo
Okay I can't really do that but the AI should always work when the ship is sitting lower than usual in the water and/or has a forward/backward/port/starboard list
which is
still a large chunk of ships
either way
running an ML model or some shit
on even a single ship
you should have a GUI pop up when the ship is merged putting you in a limbo between spectator and creative/survival called "Freecam". And it should let you select how low the ship is meant to sit by drawing a line of where it should be sitting, however, this does not change the ship's position.
why not just set it at the bottom so that it never sinks?
I JUST SAID THAT IT DOESN'T CHANGE POSITIONS!!!!
IF YOU DRAW A LINE AT THE BOTTOM IT THINKS THE SHIP IS ALWAYS TOO LOW!!!!
also having to enter a gui every time you make a ship
to set a waterline
is mad annoying
and it would also fuck over automated ship assembly
Never, not for nerds
absolutely for nerds
there are ships
which have shit tons of individual vs2 ships
in order to make the whole thing work
imagine having to enter a gui for that
every time you assemble a ship
If I'm a nerd (I am) I can make a autoclicker type thing to automatically set the waterline on ships😎
no?
you can’t make a macro
automatically somehow determine water level
either way
this feature request requires 20 different hard to code elements
an entire ml algorithm trained to detect sunk ships
and itself doesn’t serve any practical use
despite the massive cost to performance and massive dev time
my final rating:
Dude, I was thinking....
If a ship is low enough underwater for darkness to render for more than 40 minutes ONLY THEN it rusts depending on its matierial
so fuck submarines?
No
also define “low enough”
Low enough to where the human eye cannot see the ship
also most sunken ships wouldn’t even rust then
since they don’t rust in unloaded chunks
which is where there’ll be
most of the time
Reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly?
Remember this boy?
loaded chunks don’t exist irl
Yes, I'm not dumb
Here is my idea
let me use MS Paint, gimme some time
also the “depending on material” thing
doesn’t matter
since everything else inside the sunken ship
will rust anyway
THAT'S SO SUBMARINES WORK YOU ARE BEING ANNOYING AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH JESUS HELP ME
uhh homie
amigo
you might have noticed
that submarines are completely inside water
including all the individual blocks of a submarine
WELL LET ME TALK AND THEN CONSIDER THIS:
ADD A SUBMARINE BLOCK FOR BUILDING THE SUBMARINES, IT WILL NOT RUST

what about
literally every other part of the submarine
including the controls
and redstone
and propellers
genuinely
what part of
“submarines have insides that aren’t made out of rust proof blocks, that will rust”
do you not get
Have you ever heard of physics? If there's no opening interiors survive
ok so
i want you to describe
the algorithm
If an opening happens the sub starts dying
that will somehow detect if a block is the outside of a submarine
oh?
you have a revolutionary new algorithm
which can somehow detect the outer part of a ship
in a way that doesn’t kill the game due to the massive performance cost
Here is my idea:
Now take time to read, and leave me alone, damn it
I need peace after this bullcrap
FINE
which detects which blocks of the ship are the outside ones
You think I know what one looks like? IVE NEVER TOUCHED CODING IN MY ENTIRE LIFE
ASK ACTUAL CODERS, NOT SOME IDIOT WHO CANT EVEN DRAW SOMETHING DECENT, NOW BUZZ OFF MAN
well i am a coder
and what i can tell you
THEN DO IT YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH, SO I'M STUPID
I’m not the one asking for that feature
