Cogcraft is first and foremost a nations server , a server designed for people to make nations of people with goals and aspirations who may work with others or conflict with eachother in order to reach their goals. CogCraft has create and clockwork, but also has a wide range of various magic mods leaving nations with multiple options to progress. The choices you make will matter and every nation can have completely different capabilites depending on where they focus. Do you go far into create and become one of few great industrial powerhouses? Do you go into botania and make a flower powered productive haven? Do you use bewitchment and use rituals and pacts to gain powers. do you go even darker and use the forces of science to contact otherworldly beings in myskatonic mysteries, or do you lean into the light with spectrum? notch took it cuz it went like somewhat pirated because of some hackers extracted most of the code and then he used the pirated code to form the bases of minecraft

the offline setting's purpose is for playing multiplayer in airgapped environments such as parts of africa or inside a nuclear power plant

airgapped enviornments are ones that have no access to the public internet

and can only access local devices

#

offline mode makes the server not verify if a player paid because without an internet connection it would be impossible to verify that and thus every player would be marked as pirated and kicked

also developers use it to test stuff without buying a second or third minecraft account

they kind of do i mean theyre a big ass company that could literally destroy pirated launchers in a matter of days but they dont so kind of allow it plus
it helps with game popularity and serve as a free trial
also notch when he owned the game pretty much allowed it when someone who interviewed him asked about pirating his game and said that it helps attracting players as a free trial and in the end they would probably buy the game and in the end get more money than if these launchers werent in existance and it really helped with game popularity i mean not all countrys can afford this game and so they buy a pirated version of it i mean if the ammount of people that use pirated launchers didnt exist this game would be surpassed in popularity by others due to its not avaliable for everyone
