#Create blocks config 'menus' rendering issue

Forge - 1.18.2

Saw this mentioned in a channel before, so I'm creating an official support post to document it.

Many Create blocks include the ability to configure something about it with an added overlay on a certain part of the block (usually top center). This functionality is used to set filters for funnels, adjust the speed of speed controllers, change the behavior of tunnels, add advanced filters, etc. When these types of Create blocks are placed on ships, these extra config option 'menus' do not appear on the blocks and thus are unable to be interacted with. This limits the functionality of the block to its default state, severely limiting a whole lot of functionality of the Create mod blocks on ships.

Having read the discord channels a bit, someone mentioned this may just be a rendering issue with those 'menus' still being left behind in the shipyard instead of being actively relocated to worldspace like the rest of the blocks. Hopefully it is so simple (crosses fingers). Not sure if it was a dev or not who mentioned it, but a resolution to this would go a long way for using Create contraptions on ships. If it's truly a small amount of work to fix, it would produce a significant positive effect in gameplay and overall compatibility with Create.

I've attached two images of the speed controller block, one in conventional worldspace, and the other on a VS2 ship that illustrates the issue (though it is an issue on many blocks, not just the speed controller).

I'll look into it

We'll probably fix create in general more properly once development on clockwork starts

Honestly, I'm stoked to hear all of that. I've heard a little about Clockwork and I'm excited for it 👍

This did appear to resolve the issue initially... until I moved the ship, and then the menus disappeared again. They don't seem to be coming back when I break and re-place the speed controller.

#

interesting...

#

Also related, it seems that once the ship is assembled (even before the config 'menus' become misaligned, as in the pictures) changing the menu to something else has no effect. For the speed controller, changing it immediately after assembly (before flying at all) did not result in any speed change.

#

Sounds like it's a little more complicated than I thought. I should have known.

You're a machine Ruby! Thanks. I'll give it a try later today when I get some time and follow up

This is also leading me to discovering other issues (as I expected), that are related to altering configurations of blocks using these menus. Would you like me to create separate support requests to document those ones or just throw them all into this thread?

I found a small bug with the new patch, I can scroll but the rpm doesnt actually change, might be something else but ill test later, it says its running 64 but its still at base 16 on both the motor and the speed controller.

@night granite thanks for adding your notes here. I've demonstrated this in a short video (the first video in the imgur link I sent earlier today)

Seems it's not only a rendering issue, but a functional issue as well.
