It has nothing to do with nothing. They didn't do anything new, and it certainly wouldn't cause apple to change their mind overnight
This is prob the third attempt I know of to bring iMessage to other platforms, and likely the third to be shut down.
I have an extremely difficult time believing this since apple probably signs each message for imessage at the hardware level
it would be trivial since they own all the hardware anyway

this isn't bringing imessage to other platforms, this is getting apple to support a standard that everybody else uses
