#Evolving Usernames on Discord (TLDR no more 4-digit discriminator, new display name system)
69 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
So, we have to pick globally unique names?
The simplest solution for most people will be just picking their current discriminator, eg shan#6094
# is not allowed
alphanum + . and _ only
Why is discord ruining everything
really
is it started copying other social media platforms
you really just need to look at the link embed to know where they got it from
i don't have time to read it i'm currently in a lunch break, for now could you explain it in short if you can
Im more worried about losing my username
discord doing anything for that bank
Discord:
Differentiating between Bob#1234 and bob#1234 was too hard
Also discord:
If you want to add Bob send a friend request to @therealbobdagoat98534
imo, should've stuck with the discriminator
imo, should either have done this since the beginning or little after
I think they make a point when saying that the discriminator ain't easy to remember
but this is a very brusque transition
It's four numbers
back in my day peopled used to remember 10 numbers
is there any petition or some shit to veto this ๐ญ
ICQ?
Go to discord community
For reference in case anyone's interested: https://chng.it/f9qXqYPGKN
change.org petition
someone pin this
came here to say this exactly
Im sure people are familiar with # hashes from blizzard, valo, and pretty much everyone else that does this
Imo it's cool
Much better for adding new people and remembering their tags
What do you think your username will be after the change
I'll just use my full name
Like what it is on my twitter, instagram etc.
which is?
Lmao whys that
Unique Name = Unique username
I have to be super lucky to get @lethal thunder or @lethal thunderH as mine
F in chat for Brandon#0001
Gonna be mine
but hopefully not! Discord needs to stop with their nonsense
They randomly changed their fonts and made people have to resort to betterdiscord just so they can read the text
Rip, i get you now. It's not as great as I thought. Still good but ehhhhhhh idk. But F for Brandon.
My little conspiracy theory was that they just wanted to save space by getting rid of the hashes, but then they would lose more space from names getting bigger.
So pretty dumb decision, losing functionality to emulate others makes no sense in the long run.
yeah now we've got this
'display name', i think they'll replace the numbers later as they're transitioning to the new naming system
the hash is 10 bits
So its basically out
who cares bro its discord at the end of the day it is what it is
it was a fun ride having hashes
good bye hashes, see ya
Literally everyone who uses discord cares
These devs ae kinda shitty ngl
Seems like extreme nepotism for them to get first dips on the usernames when they stated that people who signed up for discord first would have first access
Changing something no one asked to be changed in the worst way possible
Damn bro personally i don't, i just want to be able to use this server for asking programming questions ๐
That is true tho
They fixing something that isn't a problem.
Even tho i think it's pretty cool
they're changing it ๐
