I personally like the idea

#

A long time ago we used to do problem sets kind of in the server from a textbook then we would grade them, but that was before we had 51,000 members haha

#

Maybe a multiple choice quiz where there's only right or wrong answers would be easier for us, but if there was someone who wanted to review free response questions too, that would be fine of course also, we would just need volunteers to be grading those

I was thinking multiple choice. No grading, since that wouldn't be feasible, but we would release the answers after a day or two so participants can self-evaluate.

The textbook thing was free response and too much work, I was just kind of giving it as like a server history tidbit haha

#

The textbook we were using was one of the English textbooks we have in my google drive

little briar
#

Gotcha.

#

I was thinking we could have questions like:

When my dog got sick, I had to take him to the _____:
a. park
b. vet
c. state
d. lake

If we made it into a google form then it could also tell users the correct answers after they finish, and they could ask about ones they don’t understand here

#

Hmm, that's a great idea. So we could have two channels: one where we post the quiz forms, and a second channel called "quiz-answer-discussions" where folks who completed the quiz can ask questions about the answers and discuss them with natives?

waxen heart
#

Or we could have them just ask in the questions channels too

#

Our channel list is getting mighty long

#

Would you like to try leading this project and seeing how it goes? We’ll help you out along the way in any way we can but any project needs a leader first

Hmm that would be a good point, if we had it in the same channel you would have to be careful reading the channel if you plan to take the quiz but haven’t yet

little briar
#

Oh, I thought you meant having users post questions in the ask-about-english/spanish channels.

#

I definitely wouldn't want the questions in the same channel where we post the quizzes, unless we can make a separate thread. But even with the threads, I think it shows a preview of the latest message?

Yeah

#

I’ll bring @fleet pike in here too, whenever you get a chance this quiz of the week might be interesting, do you have any ideas for it?

fleet pike
#

Or maybe we can pin the quizes each week or whenever we have new quizzes, but maybe making two separate channels is too much for now. Maybe if people participate and we see that it goes well we can think about making two separate threads

#

It is better to manage one channel at first

fleet pike

I invited him to host the events in a live way, but he brought this idea of doing it weekly and in a channel which I think is also good!

#

We should definitely try it.

#

I have a sample quiz that I made via SurveyMonkey - can I send it to someone for review?

@fleet pike I sent you the sample quiz via DM. Let me know what you think blobjefazo

Done!

#

I really liked the format.

#

It seems very simple so I feel like people would actually use it.

#

I'd play it!

little briar
#

Should I make more then? I don't know when the channel will actually start.

#

And what would you need?

little briar
# fleet pike And what would you need?

All I'd need would be a channel called "quiz-of-the-week" or something equivalent, where I or some other staff member can post links for the weekly quizzes. And we'll probably use threads in that channel to discuss quiz answers and questions.

Ok, I'll ask the admins for your Event Helper role so you can chat with us!
