My name is Danielle (Dani also works) and I’m from the United States. My dad’s family is from Mexico, but he only taught me ask strangers “Comes mocos?” (do you eat boogers) 🥴🤦‍♀️
In my lifetime I’ve taken many Spanish classes, had lengthy visits to Spanish speaking countries, and was able to use accented Spanish in Brazil and Italy to get by. My dog is even bilingual (my dad actually calls her my little (not little) Mexican chocolate 🐻). However, now I feel like the language has left me 💔 I am neurodivergent so language learning is weird for me. I’m particularly bad at grammar and past and future tenses.
I want to actually connect with that piece of my history and identity even if I’m labeled a “No Sabo”. I could’ve done a better job at finding ways to learn in the last few years but I’ve made plenty of excuses. Mostly I’m just sooooo burnt out and doing my best to meet my basic needs.

My Spanish seems to come from all over the diaspora, so I’m sure it’s even goofier to hear different colloquial terms combined together. 😅
I know I’ll never sound like a native speaker and I’m ok with that, because that’s a part of my story. I just want to be comfortable and confident in how I speak it.
