Hello! I have plans to be visiting Nicaragua and to stay with a family there for an indefinite amount of time in June and want to improve my Spanish before then as to not disappoint. My father and that side of my family all come from Mexico, but he didn't teach me Spanish because he thought it would be a disadvantage for me. I'd like to make friends who speak Spanish as a native language to help with building that conversational fluency, and I'm fine with also conversating in English as well. DMs are open!

I am advanced intermediate level. I have not taken a fluency test. I have trouble with speaking and listening but very little with reading and writing. I'm interested in making friends with anyone and my DMs are open at all times (though sometimes I forget to check discord so don't worry if I don't respond immediately 🙂 ) I joined this discord because ideally I would like to make friends with someone who is fluent in both English and a Spanish dialect from Mexico, with some knowledge of the (south american?) Spanish that Duolingo teaches. (If anyone would enjoy educating me on dialects feel free to slide in my DMs lol) Most of the Spanish speakers that I have met are not using the kind of Spanish that Duo teaches, but it's one of the resources I have access to. I think I know about as many words as a toddler, but probably not the same ones. I'm not really sure how to measure my level of experience, but its not much.
My favorite color is pink, I love all types of music, including things in other languages but for other languages it's primarily Spanish. I luv Selena and what I like to call sad boi music. I love cooking and baking and have experimented with making tres leches, tamales, and Telera bread to make my own milanesa tortas. I have two dogs, I think I'm going back to school in the fall for a history degree. I work in an archeology lab part time. I play a lot of Fortnite and I game pretty casually. Nuestra cultura ha sido prácticamente destruida y estoy estudiando el idioma español para poder recuperarlo. Me encanta jugar videojuegos, y mi juego principal es Overwatch. Estoy especialmente interesado en hacer amigos que sean hablantes nativos de español para que podamos practicar juntos mientras jugamos. Tengo ganas de conocer gente nueva. My father and grandfather were born in Cuba. My abuelo's father comes from Lebanon. I am a Lebanese Cuban on my father's side.
My mother is Brazilian. I know both Spanish and Portuguese on an intermediate level. I want to learn more and get to the native level.
I was born and raised in New Jersey. I am 26 years old. I grew up around many Spanish speakers, most from Puerto Rico, Cuba, DR, Peru, and Colombia. Even though I always heard the language as a child I never practiced consistently with actually speaking due to my Hispanic father not being in my life. There was even a point where having a teacher I did not like made me not enjoy the language as much. More recently with the passing of my Cuban Lebanese grandfather, I am trying to speak more Spanish and learn Arabic. I used to not enjoy the culture in the past but now I am making an effort to speak Spanish. I want to learn slangs. I want to try new foods.
I used to hate Reggaetón but now I blast Bad Bunny, Feid, Rauw Alejandro, and Myke Towers in my Honda. My favorite genres are Reggaetón, trap, Mexican Regional, and Dembow. I am slowly opening my horizons and slow listening to more classical Spanish genres such as salsa, cumbia, and merengue. I am really trying to get more into the music. My first time ever singing karaoke I was in DR and did a Dominican song. I have a playlist for many countries and vibes such as sad Spanish, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, and Spanish house music.
I also want to visit many Spanish-speaking countries. I have been to Spain, Mexico, y Republica Dominica. What country should I go to next? Which do you recommend? My goal is to travel vlog and eventually get to a level to make music in Spanish. I make videos on YouTube exploring media and culture mostly from Hispanic, Latin, and Arab cultures.
What are some must-watch Hispanic shows, movies, or YouTubers you recommend?
