Hello my name is Joy, I am a native speaker of English and can understand Tagalog 66% of the time when spoken to, although I can't speak it myself. Looking to start learning Spanish actively myself, to get closer with my boyfriend's extended family and grandma, and have a better understanding of their culture. I am an absolute beginner, but I've become accustomed to meal manners, other daily habits, and can pick apart sentences if they use Spanglish! Just can't speak it back, y'know? I had a plan to enroll in ASL classes but I realized that I should prioritize personal enrichment than educational advancements for the time being. ^^

Ah! I never introduced myself. I'm from Australia, born in Chile and grew up speaking Spanish at home, but brought up mostly in Australia so speaking English everywhere else. I'm from the UK, socialise with other human beings. Ergo I joined this server and mended people's English skills.

I'm a physicist and an Engineer,
I have a propensity to learn new languages, Hence I can speak 4 different tongues including Sign language too,
But as a repercussion I've been just Fallin into a state of solitude, therefore, it's self-explanatory why I joined the server.

And yes I follow Leonardo Da Vinci's sleeping schedule which is sleeping only for 2 hours and 22 hours of production time. So

Hello everyone I'm from the U.S. So I'm 19 years old rn. I am in a pre nursing program right now. So I would like to learn Spanish, specifically Mexican Spanish. I am a beginner. I would just like to teach myself and see how it goes.. and I would like to be able to at least communicate somewhat for now. I don't want to focus on being perfect and having perfect Spanish, I just want to be understood. Like speaking wise and writing (sorta but more emphasis on speaking). I also want to be able to understand. I want to start off speaking slow. I just made a duolingo account too. I also thought well if I learn Spanish it may help me in the medical field if someone needs help and I could understand them somewhat. If anyone could recommend Spanish youtubers that teach the language, popular songs in Mexico, popular shows, cultural things, slang, ways to order food in Spanish, I would appreciate that. I would like to learn more ab Mexico in general. I don't mind dms and talking about things or helping me with my questions. My next reason for learning Spanish( hope this doesn't come across as selfish) is because I heard language learning in my psychology class helps you with multitasking, protects against dementia, helps with your brain/ academics , and gives you a new perspective and helps with your intelligence. I like learning new things. I hope I can learn from my mistakes. Thank you for welcoming me in this community.

This is my story for those who will listen: St. Petersburg Russia 2003, I was 17 at the time. I was living in a shared home, with 7 other homeless kids. Everyone was on heroin, wasting away with no school or jobs. Although I never did any hard drugs, I drank excessively and often got in trouble with the law. I was a very thin brown haired girl, 5'6. As the winter died down (although it never really died), so did my appetite for this lifestyle. I didn't feel anything anymore, my friend died in my arms last year of an overdose but I didn't feel anything as she left. Everything was gray, not just the city, but my life. A couple of the older boys in the house often had mangled faces, something about an underground fist fight match, I didn't pry too much into it. I wondered how someone like me would fare in a situation like that. I wondered how it would feel, whether I dominated the other opponent or was mercilessly knocked around, I think I would enjoy it regardless. I talked to one of the boys and inquired about it, he said he would take me. Friday at 3am we went out, they were both drunk, they told me to drink too, but I refused. We stopped in front of a shoe repair shop and Vasily, the oldest of us (21) cracked the window. As the window opened I was struck with such a pungent stench, my nose couldn't follow all of the scents. Iron, no... blood, beer, sweat. We slipped through the window and in the dark made our way down the stairs. I could hear them already, like a concert I had been to, just yelling and screaming. We opened the door at the end of the narrow stairs and again, I was almost punched with the intense scent, now tenfold. My ears were overwhelmed by the sounds, a large cage in the middle of an open room, no furniture aside from a couple chairs. 300 people or so gathered around a steel cage, and inside two men fight.

Vasily led me through the crowd to the man taking money, I was groped and many things were yelled at me, my ears still ringing I couldn't hear what they were saying. Vasily handed him some rubles and they exchanged some words. Vasily pushed me in front of the man, and he pointed at me and laughed in confusion. "Name?" He said, staring at my chest. "Sofi" I replied. He took me to the line of awaiting fighters. Still, I felt nothing, no fear or anxiety, I was almost excited at the thought of feeling fear. I heard chains and thumping in the cage, but couldn't see anything from here. I looked out of place among the men in front of me, they were all of a large build and faces busted of the night prior I assumed. Through the cracks between people spectating, I could see another line, our opponents were standing on the other side also awaiting. The man in front of me was playing with his brass knuckles, I then realized all of them had some sort of weapon. "You like them, baby?" he said in Russian with a heavy Chechen accent. I noted the rust on them and wondered if it was from blood, or how often he groomed them. The entire time waiting he pruned them, smiling with missing teeth. The line eventually got shorter, I could now see the other opponents across from us much clearer. Every now and then a roar, a thud, a whistle. The Chechen was next, I could see the cage. I watched him go and stand in the cage, a man with a black baton across him. A whistle, then a blow. The sound of the baton striking him made it sound as if it were of iron. The Chechen fell fast and his body was dragged out of the ring, he wasn't dead as he was stubbornly flailing at the feet of the man taking him. He still wanted to fight. He was screaming what I can only assume were curse words, some Chechen dialect.I realized it was my turn, I looked across to see who I would be up against. I saw a light illuminating purple, then was grabbed by the man who took Vasily's money earlier.

I'm from the UK, socialise with other human beings. Ergo I joined this server and mended people's English skills.

I'm a physicist and an Engineer,
I have a propensity to learn new languages, Hence I can speak 4 different tongues including Sign language too,
But as a repercussion I've been just Fallin into a state of solitude, therefore, it's self-explanatory why I joined the server.

And yes I follow Leonardo Da Vinci's sleeping schedule which is sleeping only for 2 hours and 22 hours of production time. So

Hello, I'm Cass. I'm 25 and I live in the USA and want to learn Spanish because it's spoken widely where I live and I love seeing the relief on peoples faces when you can speak their language and they can let their walls down, oh and getting paid more for being bilingual asset, since most people in my area only speak one or the other. I'm most familiar with Dominican and Colombian dialect, but Mexican is a close 3rd. I know more than I let on, but when faced with real life situations I croak and say the most basic words. I jokingly pride myself on knowing how to speak but not conjugate my verbs.

I'm mildly resentful that my learning Spanish through immersion while working in a warehouse kind of mentally overtook my french vocabulary, but that just means I need to work harder to separate them both. I'm originally from Canada, so I was fluent in French when I moved to the USA but lost fluency status over the 6 years I've lived in the US.

Hello everyone, I'm Ryan. I live in the south eastern USA. I am a beginner-intermediate Spanish speaker. I have an international job which involves traveling to many Spanish speaking countries and dealing with Spanish speaking customers. I am an automation technician. I have a few friends from Dominican Republic, a friend from Colombia and a friend in Mexico. My girlfriend is Puerto Rican and speaks Spanish as her first language and she is an advanced English speaker. She rarely cooperates when I attempt to practice Spanish with her, which is also typical of my Latin American friends. Hola! You can call me Maria you might've guessed but I'm from the Philippines. I'm fluent in English while Tagalog remains as my native language which has much of it's similarities to Spanish since yk history. It's not neccessary but I'm 14yrs old (I know abit young), I've attempted learning Spanish in the past but miserably failed though I remember doing simple duolingo attempts. De mis idiomas adquiridos, puedo hablar ruso hasta una cantidad desagradable, mis nativos son el inglés y el afrikáans (aunque realmente ya nunca lo hablo) sólo obtuve una distinción en inglés por una razón. Me gustaría aprender español porque las chicas venezolanas están muy buenas y bien bronceadas, y la música latina sería probablemente la última que quedaría después de que toda la música sea masacrada - y hay clásicos reembolsables que nunca aburren.

Mi objetivo es estar avanzado en español como lo estoy en inglés y hablar con los locales en mis viajes en 2 años a partir de hoy. Encantado de conocer a todo el mundo, y los dms están abiertos para cualquier español-nativo y decente de habla hispana. Puede que borre esto porque estoy un poco achispado mientras escribo esto. I'm a fluent English speaker. My first language is Spanish but I've lost fluency, I decided to stop learning French and work on my Spanish proficiency before moving on to a 3rd language.

I'm 16, graduated highschool and on hiatus before going to university next year, I'll be studying for a computer science degree

I’ve already introduced myself but I’m 23 and I took Spanish classes for 6 years until the age of 18. I am looking to improve and I am looking for someone who also speaks fluent English that will call with me and shamelessly practice speaking only Spanish. I would also be super happy to call with someone who speaks Spanish and wants to improve their English, we can switch between the 2 languages!! I think it’s stressful for a lot of people to do that, but I think it’s the best practice. Let me know if you’re interested!
