Hello, I am Upamanyu! I am from India, but I spent 3 years living in the US and have been living in English-speaking communities my whole life, so I consider myself a native speaker. I'm pretty new to Spanish, but I'm moving to the US again soon, and would love to connect with the huge Spanish-speaking culture there! I don't shy away form grammar, and I love getting into the linguistics and historical details of WHY and HOW a language has developed in the way that it has. Just a heads up, I kinda joined this discord to get some advice and chill. I took Spanish in high school but high school Spanish usually lacks in teaching material and a good environment to learn, so I was wondering if next semester I should try taking Spanish again? People keep saying I should because I'm half Guatemalean but I've never been much in touch with that side of my family lmfao. I've been more exposed to my Korean side of the family and have had more exposure with it, not to mention I don't look very "Latino", whatever that means. So yeah. I sometimes speak Spanish in marketplaces or when I go out to specific Latin & Spanish bars, which goes decently well but using proper pronunciation and vocabulary is still quite difficult, also I find it more comfortable than actually writing Spanish. I was in a Spanish/English discord almost two years ago with private groups and proclaimed certified teachers, but timezones were too off for me (they were mostly Latin) and I feel like English levels were not exactly what I was looking for. Hello! My name is Esteban and I'm Hispanic. I'm half Peruvian and half Colombian. I'm here to relearn Colombian/Venezuelan Spanish because as a kid, I was taught both Spanish & English and I thought those two languages was just one language. Therefore, I spoke Spanglish and no teacher understood me and I developed a speech impediment and had to relearn the whole English language and I didn't continue learning Spanish!
