well, its complicated. when i first joined, there were tons of porteños and uruguayos that were active and one thing led to another and i decided to learn it.

and started learning rioplatense spanish a couple of months after i joined

while it is significantly easier to learn the pronunciation because of that, listening is still quite difficult. there are a wide range of accents, regional words, more than in english. on top of that, spanish is spoken at a faster pace than english in general because each syllable conveys less meaning

the consistent pronunciation helps, but all those other factors play a role too

lots of sounds can be dropped or changed depending on the accent

That last bit is true although not self evident, I was quite surprised when I saw the comparison between different average rate of syllables pronounced in different languages and Spanish was leading among even some Slavic languages

to have a good accent too is tricky, while a lot of the consonant sounds exist in english, most of the vowel sounds dont exist in isolated monophthong

when to aspirate s's

and the minor details like where exactly are d's and t's pronounced relative to english

umm, this is a tricky question. it rly depends on what has someone been exposed to. mexican spanish and other central american variants of spanish are pretty much the norm in my area. there are virtually no rioplatense speakers here. so for me, it was definitely trickier than if i were to learn mexican spanish. u also have to keep in mind the amount of slang the dialect has. rioplatense spanish i would say uses significantly more slang than many other dialects

but thats talking about dialects rather than accents
