hi
¿No soy Evil acaso? 😮
Inglés?
Por qué me hablas en español entonces 😄
@hollow wedge excuse me the inconvenience, but I wanted to ask, what do younger people usually do for fun in Iceland ? I was looking at it on google maps and it seems so quiet.
probably drink
lol
in my case it was computer games
but yeah some drink, do sports
watch tv
i mean, what do they do in argentina?
also how young?
i was answering like you meant kids
but maybe you dont mean that
also you are excused 😆
I was thinking about 15 to 25 years old 😜
usually go out to the park, eat something, also do sports, go to the movies, in the night you can go to the disco and some bars
probably just similar to everywhere else
yeah
yeah same
except you cant go outside as much in winter i guess
i mean you can but people do it less

do u go out to bars and boliches fede?
not as densely populated as a big city
not now, cuz covid, but before that yes

yeah I like that
how about you ?
Para q es este chat?
no
idk, i dont like lots of noise (?
besides im not of drinking age here
hablamos de cualquier tema no sensible
what's the drinking age there ?
but you like to shake your wings (dance), dont' you ?
yeah, me neither, just from time to time
ooh, but do you like to go out to the park and stuff like that or you are more like a homebody ?
parks here are few and far between but i mean i do like going out every once in a while but ive gone out very rarely in like the past year since the pandemic started lol
hanging out with ppl outside is nice
Homebody?
but like i'd only rly do it a few times a week
That really exists?
lol

Ahhhhhh
The RAE keep the things in an order, so, no xd
in order? how so
Long live the RAE
The RAE is completely useful and necessary
nah
a veces sí, a veces no
nunca
Without RAE there wouldn't be clear rules
it literally didn't even care when the futsub was falling into disuse lol
speakers make the rules, not some institution
RAE proscribes the use of -ra forms for the conditional, although it still survives in some dialects
That's true, but it's the most accurate at explaining definitions and stuff
and they are aware of this
The language is something that is build with a LOT of years, u can't expect change it in 3 years, and yeah, the speakers can change some things, but only if it's massive, in other way it would be useless
also RAE being a thing creates a toxic environment. You don't know how religiously people take the RAE dictionary. They'll cite it for everything lmao, it's kinda pathetic
language is something that evolves, it isn't created
What? Impossible. -era and -ese endings are both accepted
for the conditional
Yeah. They are both accepted
-ra could and can still be used conditionally in some dialects: si me lo dijese se lo diera
"Si me lo dijese, se lo daría"
you don't get what im saying. For the imperfect subjunctive, they're both accepted. For conditional forms, -ra is proscribed nowadays
yes but in classical spanish you could use diera as well
Disgusting
We don't use that
It sounds bad
Some dialects must get nucked (?
Lol
So your point of view is based because some people religiously people use it as a dictionary, I mean, literally it had the definition of the things, if I say that, idk, bread is an adjective for busy people, it would be wrong, and if u need to prove it, u use the dictionary
I'm kidding btw
lol
But for me it doesn't sound good
where are you from
when you spend a lot of time here you realize maybe bread can be an adjective for busy people, you know
Argentina :v
WHAT
sorry i didn't understand your point quite well. You mean RAE provides definitions? I mean other dictionaries do that too, I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that they have a say in what is 'correct' and what isn't
also, if enough people use the word bread like that, it'd be correct to use
and la RAE would inevitably have to accept it sooner or later
Yeah. That's true
But they do that
For example they accepted the term "setiembre" (YUCK) because a lot of people say "setiembre" instead of "septiembre"
recently they have yes, but not enough. It's kinda crazy that for some entries they list certain words as obsolete when they're obviously not
lol
Yeah but they don't use bread like that, not enough people, so, if 3% of the people who speak Spanish use bread as an adjective, we should change the definition?
ye, they make mistakes
they should list it as an existing definition of bread, yes
Okay...
3% of the Spanish speaking population is a lot, you might not be aware of the amount of hispanohablantes worldwide
i wish i could do maths
I mean words can have more than 1 meaning, this is nothing new
so it shouldn't be a problem
Well, I'm gtg xd, we're definitely not going to come to an agreement and I don't wanna get mad for this xd, cya guys^^
I don't know but i think we need academic institutions like RAE to formulate definitions and that. Many people misuse words
cya dron
formulate definitions?
not a good idea
Em... Writing definitions idk. You got the point
Well I don't think native speakers can misuse words. Can you give me an example of a misuse of a word?
Mamy people misuse words at the point where some words could mean literally anything
Or they add additional words to some terms with no reason
por ejemplo?
For example now people tend to add "social" to anything. Economía social, violencia social (??????)...
What does it mean "social economy"?
Economy is always social!
haven't really come across that yet
Social justice
maybe social adds another meaning, who knows
but let me give you an example. Before I do though, what do you think of the word avanzar? would you use it to mean "to hurry"?
People tend to add it to seem like they are emphatic or they care about people
dont think so
would you consider it to be wrong if you heard it used like that?
it's basically another word for apurarse
No
It's different
yeah to you it means something different
Avanzar ≠ Apurarse
avanzar = apurarse is true for others tho
For who?
Caribbeans
Not true
Apurarse is different
nah it's the same for them
Completely different
also i think in Peru as well
You mean people from DR, ...? Im not so sure about the definition of caribbean in English
Bc in spanish venezuela and colombian count too
I've never head of that use case
when you say caribe/caribbean regardless of which language, people will picture the antilles
not southamerica
the islands basically

In spanish?
The Caribe is the group of islands
I dont think so
but I understand in its "official" definition it may also include coastal Colombia and Venezuela
No
Some islands of Colombia and Venezuela could be part of the Antilles

Idk
ye, el norte de Sudamérica tiene costa caribe... en mi mente
Yeah in the south you guys also call us caribeños
well, i have to ask first
What
then i have to look at my map
let's be serious here, Colombia and Venezuela are the last places people think of when they hear the word Caribbean lol
first thing that comes to mind are the islands, mainly
whatever, my point is, avanzar = apurarse
Literally every spanish native that's seen that said no
Avanzar is not the same
Exactly
Yeah that sounds strange ngl
seen what
Is like i was trying to teach something in English to a person who's native in English
pero no sabemos todo de todos lados
I don't know man. Colombians and specially Venezuelans have the Caribbean vibe 😎
You said Avanzar = Apurarse
and every single spanish native that came through this chat and saw that said you're wrong
yo del caribe profundo no sé nada
They're really cool
I think ive heard people saying "avanza avanza!" Which I guess counts as saying apurate
But idk
Sí, pero aquí hay gente de muchos lados, y ninguno ha dicho que avanzar = apurarse, porque no lo es :(
because every native here (which so far have only been 4) is every native in the world right? nobody here is from the islands, where I said avanzar = apurarse

Yeah, but in that context they want to move fast in order to not being late

there u go
personalmente yo soy de muy lejos de allí, no me sorprendería si significa eso
Yeah but that's used everywhere I guess
Ive heard it from people from argentina
Spain
Mexico
Not being rude, but man, we are natives in the language, imagine how would be if i say something in English, and 5 person told me that it's wrong but I say to them "no, it's right", it would be at least annoying
In that specific context they are the same I guess
anyway véase
Ew
Tal como: Avanza!
We must eliminate Perú and Puerto Rico
if you have had experience with other native english speakers and you tell me a word in English can mean something that I havent heard before, and you tell me you have heard it from other natives, I wouldn{t argue
idk
lol wtf
Avanza ≠ apurarse, "avanza, avanza" maybe yeah, but it's a phrase, and u are telling that just the word is the same
XDDD
I don't disagree
no like they'll say "tienes que avanzar, o sino vas a llegar tarde"
Fuck "avanza". All my homies use "apurate"
Lol
It would be like "you need to move on, or u will be late" not "you need to go fast, or u will be late"
mmmmm the difference is so little
"mueve la raja"
expresión chilena
Yeah, my english is bad, but u know what I mean
Love it
ya llegó el chileno
epico
alpaca have you heard of mueve la raja?
i live in this freaking fideo

nada, de que parece q en vez de alentar los proyectos de otros usuarios (de ori en este caso) q estabas reaccionando/poniendo cosas más negativas, como por ejemplo reaccionar con "NO" en su post de storytime session. no es una gran cosa, pero tiene un impacto en los esfuerzos de los usuarios y la comunidad
estamos acá para aprender y practicar, y ser negativo sobre la generosidad de otros usuarios es innecesario en mi opinión
