It’s gonna be a longgg drive But it looks nice
Burlington is one of the more major cities in vt, so yeah it'd be a good choice
it looks like a pretty city and not too long to do
Dang you're going to half the places that I've been wanting to go to and I live in the Northeast
gotta know this will be done in 2 weeks, so it's not that much
How long are you staying in each city 5 hours
There are routes that you can take which avoid paying tolls but keep in mind those are usually longer
yeah probably, we'll see on the go if we need to.
depends on the city, not gonna pass more than 2 hours in burlington but maybe an entire day or more in NY
Very understandable considering I live here and still feel I have to go out see more
Also about your question I wouldn't know but yeah I would say you may wanna check along the way cuz usually Google gives the fastest route without considering the expenses
yeah, i have made a route without the expenses too, i'll talk with it with my folks to see what they prefer
but obviously it's a bit longer
Great Good Luck with your trip
thank you!!
it is you
aún existo, en cierto modo
me alegro
ok thank you for the info. i'll check if i can find a better route then
realmente no hay forma de conducir en Boston sin cosas así, aparte de hacerlo entre 12-4:30AM

I'd also say that Cleveland to Montreal is going to be least exciting leg of the trip. I'm assuming you are going to visit Niagara Falls seeing as you are passing by at Buffalo New York. Meanwhile the more exciting part is going to be traveling from Montreal around to Cleveland. You'll be passing through some very important and interesting cities. I think the overall route is good, especially for a Canadian. For Americans, I would highly recommend they travel quickly through Buffalo and cross over to the Canadian side on their last leg.
OH NO
This is so upsetting...
NOOOOOO...
RIP absolute legend..
decided to change plans, this would be it instead. changes were made according to recommendations by americans i talked to. what do you think about it?
@median trail
@scarlet flint are you gonna join any vc again?
I was having dinner

@dreamy jolt i have to sleep super early tn so i cant but hope so for this weekend

Very sad news man. I found last night, he was a huge inspiration for me when I started with Spanish. He entertained and inspired a lot of folks. May he rest in peace 🙏🏿

Why are Japanese names reversed when written in English, or other languages that use the Latin alphabet? And why isn't this done for other East Asian names?
Well, there's a reason... and this may soon change!
Japanese name order is used in this video with the exception of the example using Hayao Miyazaki in the beginning.

that's why it's funny when someone claims to sell "cha tea"
a fact that interests me is that in jp mate is called "tea mate" (マテ茶)
we call some weird iced mate thing chá mate

what does that accent mark mean

interesting
this is mate
mate leon
yotsuba

does it exist in arg tambien
ew
I know some countries sell this abomination especially in Europe and Japan but wasn't expecting it from Brazil
no, we do have mate cocido though which is considered another drink here
but it's essentially that
chimarrão is what we call mate
same thing as the argentinian one with the bomba n all
we however call it bombinha
i have never tasted mate..
they used to give us these for the school merienda in middle school
with lots of sugar
i've tasted tererê which is cold mate
tastes decent enough
but it was mint flavoured
Why is Poland blue if it's herbata; and teapot is actually __czaj__nik
have you tried terere but with orange juice?
indeed, good point
tererê with what-

why
we don't have the right weather.
well kind of but not the same as Asian tea
I mean I can drink it if it has milk and sugar/cream or whatever
but I can't just drink black coffee
por eso si tuviera plata viviria en starbucks
i usually mix it with powdered chocolate and milk, sometimes syrup and cream/ice cream
so it tastes like crappy starbucks coffee
i dont drink black coffee with ice cubes

what's foie gras?
👀
Torturan a un pato para que se agrande el hígado de forma innatural. Después matan al pato y la gente se le come el hígado, se llama foie gras
Every year millions of ducks and geese suffer a cruel and painful fate to become the delicacy known as foie gras. Confined in tiny cages, these birds are force-fed several times a day in a process called gavage in which a metal tube is violently rammed into their throats, forcing them to swallow a thick corn porridge. This brutal feeding method ...

En España, la falta de legislación provocó que numerosos productores utilizasen, en el pasado, indistintamente los términos paté y foie gras, lo que ocasionó confusión entre los consumidores.

@scarlet flint in chrome > settings > advanced > system > hardware acceleration
Whats it do? @still radish generally
hardware go brr
Yes so I do.
hardware acceleration is the usage of some other piece of hardware to offload tasks from the CPU. the most common example is using a GPU to do certain tasks over a cpu
it's when you throw your computer out the window
Ah thanks
Where does chrome come in
idk what chrome uses it for specifically
it probably renders the whole thing
because iirc OBS can't capture it unless you disable it

I am here @edgy quarry
this is cool
It is, indeed.
i already knew of the word in portuguese prazer
but i didn't know if it was used that way

im gunna use me place now lmao
Show me.

yknow how nosotros/vosotros is like, vos/nos + otros
Are you gonna talk about inclusive/exlusive plural? awa
well in quebec french, they've begun to say nousautres/vousautres

instead of vous/nous
Epic.
yeah it's so cool to see how these languages grow in interesting ways
Wish Cajun French was more widespread along the French Luisiana.
Me too
The Louisiana situation was crazy for the Quebecois here
that's part of the reason we had such an intense independence movement for awhile
Oh, wait.
within a generation the language disappeared
I was gonna ask you what your base language to learn Spanish was.
Is it Quebecois French? :OOO
No, italian lol
Oh. F.
lmao
base language
My father is Quebecois
Oh.
But Portuguese was the first language I learned after English

lmao
How many languages do you speak? Lol
okay let me explain

ScorpioMartianus intensifies
I'd love to reach that level, btw.
Someday...
I have to start first. Lol
anyways, i learned portuguese first because my family is portuguese/brazilian and i wanted to study painting with my aunt in São Miguel so I had to learn
and while there i learned how much i enjoyed the aspect of learning languages which eventually led me down the path of learning spanish and then italian and then latin but i chose italian as my primary because of what i said earlier about wanting to study the evolution of vulgar latin dialects
But I easily speak Italian the best out of these languages, i make as many mistakes in spanish as you´d imagine

and my portuguese is very vulgar in the classical sense
Romance languages are just perverted vulgar Latin dialects, prove me wrong.
TRUE
Yeah that's kinda what I tell people, I want to learn to speak one of these languages to a high, high level (Italian) and the rest I imagine I'll be able to read/listen to without difficulty and then get my point across well enough in speaking
If I'm actively studying them, that is
I see.
I can imagine this mindset might offend some people though so idk how you guys feel about some random guy butchering your language lol
Worry not, we do that ourselves and call it evolution. Lmao
Lol okay good

what even is that
Yeah, I talk to a lot of people who want to learn languages and they always tell me they want to be fluent, but to me, you don't really need to be fluent at all to make strong connections with people or even enjoy another language to a good degree

i want to some day be conversational in portuguese. italian doesnt interest me all too much tho
but i want to expand my mandarin vocab first
Ooh mandarin would be so cool
but in the end spanish and mandarin are likely gonna be the 2 foreign languages i'll know the best
Vão se barbearem. (?)
Vão se barbear
I was gonna ask.
LOL
Se barbearão
Cuz it's reflexive, so...
Barbear-se-ão

jesus
Mesoclisis is strictly for Camoes and no one else
Hey.
Mesoclisis isn't even Camões it's the Holy Bible at this point
LOL
I once met a guy who wrote Portuguese with Camões' orthography.
where was he from?
Brazil.
or was he doing it intentionally
Yeah Camoes is super difficult to read
The only change he had made (or he told me he had, at least) was the end of demonyms.
Was it like a stylistic choice he made or something
splendid indeed
very nice
Not really, he told me that sorta was the orthography Portuguese had till 1940 or so.
Well, it was a choice, but...
I don't really know his reasons. xD
It may have been later but yeah, afaik Portuguese has had a lot of interesting orthographical changes in the recent past
It just looked epic.
Yeah that's really cool actually
Fuck the Acordo.
why would anyone write with that terrible orthography
You're using it in English, tho.
and yes i myself cant keep up with some of the changes
Where in Brazil are you from?
Oh hell yeah

I love the Rio dialect
our vowels are open are the s is a chiado
também vs tambêm
trém not trêm
sweet old portuguese heritage
Cariocan accent is the best, change my mind
Indeed.
Cries in Galician
It's funny because some unstressed de- suffer it while others don't
avó*
um sotaque*
LOL
an acento in portuguese is: à á â ã ä
We cannot speak in other languages out of #🦄・other-languages, tho. uwu
i did say my portuguese is pretty vulgar
Oh sorry i didnt know
it's somewhere inbetween
No worries.
tis fine the channel is relatively new
my portuguese is very old fashioned because i mostly speak it with older generations
Yeah. xD
my cousins in portugal make fun of me
Beautiful.
Lmao it's quite funny and sad how media is erasing the dialectal distinctions
like for example they laugh when i say papa esta
the accents aren't dominating one over the other but rather merging into a weird thing
make fun of portugal
Cries
Gaúcho has lost its di/ti sounds to the carioca sounds, and São Paulo slang is everywhere
i thought the de facto standard was paulista
even the chiado is somewhat less prevalent outside Rio and Floripa
it is but paulistano (NOT paulista) itself is very cosmopolitan
São Paulo not only is full of foreigners but a large chunk of people are migrants from other states
i think to a certain extent brazil will always have a lot of linguistic variation though just due to its sheer size no?
northeastern slang like "meu rei" "oxe" and "mainha" have now spread
i think the same thing is happening with the us though
its funny but also sad
there are still differences though
Is it because of you Brazilians that my brother calls me "meu rei"? Lmao
deadass have a friend from the amazon who says gurì lmao
yes.

lmao
meu rei isn't even used in Bahia anymore but it's become popular elsewhere lmao
i know some sulistas that say like piá
I only use gurí when talking to my gaúcho or catarinense friends
for "dude" I usually say mano or cara instead
Oi, mano.
where did cara come from
Dunno, but it also exists in Argentina. :v
i accidentally say it all the time in italian and i sound way too flirty
they say cara too tho
it means face
and mano
also ne
they say all three
né is a contraction
né = não é
yeah i know but its so usefull lol
same as innit
gottem
interesting
Yk, it's all good ol' Romania. -w-
Lol
Not the country. ewe
Romanian probably has so many cool aspects
LOL
I meant this. :P
i do normally have chiado however
fuck chiado :^)
no.
ALL SOTAQUES ARE VALID
except portugal
Only Lisbon

What's "chiado", tho?
I honest to god can't stand the Lisbon accent personally
Oh.
I like Lisboa
Porto has the best accent in Portugal
actually I say vocêix
rio be like paHGHHHGHGRHGGHRGHHGRRHtchix
Carioca has -i insertion before sibilants
(partes)
LOL
Jesuish Crishtú
Lmao
its only for stressed syllables tho
Jésúiss in the northeast lol
i learned the i insertion too and i keep misspelling mas and mais as a result
xD
Virgin, it's all "mais" in Galician.
I really like the chiado in Portuguese, it's unique and I think it's the only official romance language with it
it's unique > spain with shshshshshshshshsh
lol
the origin is the same as spain's weird sibilant
It's not a fucking Sh, I swear.
c e l t s .
Bruh.
Our S is that of Latin.
Ligurian has it too
por thierto shoy eshpañol

LOL
por thierto shoy
It's not Celtic, it's Latin. Lulz
me at my friends
So Andalusian.
I honest to god love the theta sound and it's cool to have a difference between soft and hard cs and z and s but every time i try to explain it to my uruguayan friends this is what they say
ljvoa
:3
Como el acento de Rocco. Una belleza
Sardinian joined the game
Andalusian ceceo is the best
Indeed.
How do they do it?
TRUE

That's the Chaddest one.
albeit Italian wins with the ch sound
I don't think you can use "albeit" there. awa
W.
The V is horrendous
es gracioso que θ es un sonido bien raro pero se encuentra en la mitad de los idiomas oficiales de las nu
interesante
Beati hispani...
hoy descobrí que solo existen tres idiomas en europa con vocales nasales fonemicas
frances, portugues y polaco (?

Only three? Lel
hm
en flemish tambien pero solo en un dialecto
solo tres idiomas nacionales
damnit
This isn't Galician. :v
pensé que había más pero al pensarlo no puedo encontrar otro
sip, creo que solo esos 3-4
es mas comun en los idiomas asiaticos
hindustani lo tiene tambien
y otras linguas de asia q no son indoeuropeas
lenguas

más común?
Actually, I think Flemish is a different language, albeit still a Langue d'Oïl.
I confused it with Walloon. xDDD
Pronuntiatio Restituta.
Lmao
creo que los vocales nasales son más comunes en Amazonia
Virgin Eclessiastical Latin.
En Brasil casi todas las vocales son nasales en algunos acentos
Guarani be like.
me encanta como funcionan los nasales en guarani
I wish there was a latin that retained ecclesiastical v but hard consonants everywhere else
h a r m o n i a
n a s a l
because ecclesiastical latin is just fancy italian
Spanish with no v sound

FACTS
You guys invented it. .-.
well it exists but

I'm bringing it back baby
we didn't invent it every other romance language has it
a lot of latin american dialects have [v] but little to no distinction
its just an allophone of [b]
yeah so i hear
ive never heard of any dialects saying v
and then cubans just hit you with the hardest of bs all the time
i hear it as [v] most of the time in Mexican when its the first letter of the word
BOS TRABAJAIS

Vós traballades.
Mexican Spanish be like
'sted's trəbajãn
ββββββββββββ
Chilean: whats an S
Central Mexican: what isnt an S
j
Chad-dalusian: Whatcha guys be talkin' 'bout?
is it common in spain for the s´s to be removed before other consonants
like etás instead of estás
im glad mexican spanish is the closest phonologically to english cause it means i can be lazy
In the south. (?)
etá bię bidih?
LOL
Andalusian is the best accent change my mind
tazvién bidis 🇲🇽
Have you guys ever played the Spanish game Blasphemous
I haven't, tho I follow a dev on Instagram. xD
Well in that game they recently released a full Spanish dub
i swear mexican spanish has the most s voicing of any spanish dialect
I love how they speak in the game
How is it?
Mexican spanish weakens vowels when in contact with S especially lol
they love sibilants
sssssssssss
[zzzzzzzzz]
I was disappointed when I felt like listening to this amazing voice and instrument outside of the game and went on YouTube, just to find that all the videos had the English dub.
dos pesos more like dz pəsz
I love this game btw you guys should play it
well idk about that one
Let's see...
the vowels disappear when in contact with 2 S sounds
iirc this is only a central altiplano thing
The game is like a hyper-catholic spanish inquisition dark souls game
which includes cdmx
the aesthetic is perfect
Wait.
i meant more the zs there
Bolivian also weakens vowels in contrast to stronger sibilants
That giant's voice actor isn't Severus Snape's, is it?
oh
I have no idea, I've never seen Harry Potter in Spanish
is s not a z at the end of words
more likely dos pesəs

no
well true ə
its just z before a voiced consonant i think
but some speakers delete the vowels
Hostias, es muy bueno el doblaje
Stoy de accuerdo
I can confirm from watching Mexican Netflix
Me place muchissimo
there was a time when i naturally spoke with a broken rioplatense accent
but now
sə ha conbertidu en un acentu mijicanu

Spanish has no double consonants, btw, appart from LL and RR. :v
with a dash of portuguese influence
indeed
but the intonation in capitolino and paulistano is surprisingly similar to my ears
both are quite nasal and the pitch is somewhat similar
Which Portuguese accent do you have the most issue with
capitolino?
uh as in understanding?
Yeah
capitolino = chilango = cdmx
not just in brazil
Açores
i have a video about it do you want to see it
Normal Portuguese: Estou cheio de fome
Azores: Tu ched uh fom
Português com um forte sotaque açoriano de Rabo de Peixe legendado para português continental.

Yes I do want to see it
Oh ive seen this one
makes me laugh every time
tbf this is just sao miguel that speaks like this
faial has a very central portuguese accent thats very easy to understand
very neutral
Uma kyza enom.
they all have their own tinge though its pretty cool
this is how it sounds to me
Manezinho in Brazil sounds similar to Açorian and its honestly ridiculously funny
i always thought the spelling of coisa was a new development for portuguese
but never cosa huh
More Galician.
no not cosa
interesting
Wait, Uranus.
Didn't you say you pronounce Ou as O?
loiro, louro

i kinda like the ou more
we pronounce most ou dipthongs as ô
So do I. :3
My mom always makes fun of me because she says coisa "cusa" and then she flamboyantly says it like me "COY'EEZA"
Reply with "cousa" with a retroflex S. Lmao
the verb endings kinda end up sounding like the Spanish ones with é for ei and ó for ou
lol
No, wait, not retroflex.
It's not so much a sound change per se but rather a reflex of the extreme vowel weakening in some accents
so the -i kinda just dies
oh really
when did the f change
f sound
Nor am I, actually.
Orthographical conservativism.
Yeah
Portuguese kept all of em
Cuz H doesn't sound whatsoever...
Same here.
ora is similar to the Italian ora
meaning "now" or "at the time"
but used differently iirc
oh cool, good to know
Oh.
hora is just gour
It's "he/she prays" here. Lol

but ora is a conjunction too
Interesting.
Otrora.
Outrora also exists
Ik.

It's honestly surprising that there isn't a stronger Italian imprint on Brazilian Portuguese given that it has the most Italian descendants of any country outside of Italy
true
Might be one of the words I love the most in Spanish.
there is a sizeable one in the Southern and Southeastern dialects though
I always thought that is where the d and t sounds game from because "dia" is the same sound as "giorno"
almost the same sound
Buen diurno.
No, it's African immigration to Rio de Janeiro

the sound spread from here to the rest
and it is still spreading.
Honestly its cool, it sounds better than saying it like an italian for whatever reason
Carioca is the best
What is it like?
let me see if I can find videos.
Great oxymoron. :v
i have a decent video for the carioca accent
Actually I don't know if this is the carioca accent now
This video was recorded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Julia lives and works. Portuguese is spoken by more than 200 million people, primarily in Portugal and Brazil, where it is the majority native language, as well as in Angola, Cabo Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Macau, where it en...
but i still like it
video was recorded in rio
https://youtu.be/96pDf_2OeXI this is an exaggerated version of it lol
it's very uh lazy and relaxed
I can destroy the accent because I speak with it
https://youtu.be/F_EHfr6y9fg @lavish estuary @onyx geode
Los Argentinos y sus gestos son todo lo que esta bien en el mundo 😂 Se comunican de otro nivel.

some of those vowels are really weird
I like the Cariocan accent because it feels like a nice bridge between European and Brazilian Portuguese
Oriana.
and yes that is a carioca accenr and she speaks very similar to me
?

she was born in Petrópolis which is like 1 hour from Rio and shares the exact same accent

Lulz
I myself have been there some 3 times
nah the girl sounds very similar to how I speak
although her portuguese has most definitely been influenced by the portuguese migrants here
Imagine mine. xDDD
????
lmao
I mean, she's Galician, so... :v
the vowels are weird like soup said because the accent is ridiculously lax
we all just speak like hurhsurhsurhsushrhs
it's so endearing
Lmao
floripa sounded the most portuguese to me tbh
it doeeees
yeah it comes from it
got a vid?
or wait no i meant the woman in the vid
but im bad at accents so
yeah but that was before the lisbon accent changed the way it did no?
we are the most portuguese city in brazil, p much everyone here has portuguese ancestry
no it was in the 1800s
Rio was capital of the Portuguese empire from 1808 to 1821
yeah hasn't the lisbon accent changed in the last 150 years like a lot
yeah true
they roll their r's now im pretty sure
but it sounds similar to it because by 1800 most major sound changes had occurred
and no they do not
both Lisbon and Rio have the most guttural R sounds you'll find
rrrrrrua
Lisbon rolling? Wtf. Lol
i remember distinctly being there
Wish they did.
maybe not in the same way as the spanish
i know rio doesn't im talking about lisbon
but both have a very guttural RR sound
hmm
Rio is kinda the split between the R thing
most accents south of it preserve the syllable final R
while most north of it do not
i say it as a [h] or drop it like Catalan does
comer = comê

yeah thats cool
paulistano has both iirc
never miss an opportunity to roll your rs folks
except at the end of a syllable i say it like an approximant
the city has like 22 million people so its bound to have some variation
estoy porrrrrrrrr hablar
nooooooo
thats the accent i learned

:^)
ok then it is not paulistano
the paulista r is horrible
it sounds like english
Wait.
i was pretty sure some paulistanos did it too
it comes from a mix of English and Guarani
i definitely heard it
Is that fucking R from Paulistano dialect? awa
bien
