SF alone generates like 5% or whatever of the WHOLE nation's GDP as a single area. idt there's any other city that can say the same outside of NYC, but NYC is starting to be less and less because most trading is done remote now.

Utah was founded as a religious colony after the mormons got kicked out of several western states. The idea was basically to run away to the mountains and build their perfect little society in peace

metro areas are generally enormous so

ember chasm

it includes the whole county/ies the city is part of iirc

astral nexus
#

the US census has designated CSAs

serene dune

it's an arbitrarily assigned system

ember chasm

So like the SLC metro extends into the desert nobody lives in due to Tooele being part of it, but tooele county barely has any people outside of the one area on the border of SL county

Well, two of them are my native languages and i learnt English by playing games, watching short videos on YouTube and English class
we learn Arabic in school but i can't speak as well
about the Spanish, i use chatgpt to learn Grammer and basic things then i come here to talk with natives to improve my Spanish and i try to use the new things that i learn
there are some sites that teach you useful verbs or words, but the best way to learn a new language is talking to a native and i also suggest you talk to yourself if you want to improve your speaking skills, because here i don't have anyone to speak Spanish with him, i stand behind the mirror and i ask questions from my self in English, then i try to answer them in Spanish
that can help you a lot

Tell me anyone who says science isn't fallible

crisp shell
#

fallibility of science is irrelevant. you're dealing with a system of epistemology which is founded upon the principle of using models to explain and predict existence, and modifying those models to fit new data. I'll take a system which makes accurate predictions according to our data any day over some paper compiled from oral traditions millennia ago by people who knew nothing of the world, and whose book(s) have no predictive value in science.

I think it would be better if you explained in granular detail how you understand evolution to work. For example, how one population can evolve to become two different species. Could you explain how you think evolutionary biologists would explain it, in your own words?

#

Rather than making truth-statements which we can't just assume to be true

#

So rather than saying "macroevolution doesn't occur", explain how "macroevolution" is claimed to function, step by step, and then explain why it doesn't work

#

That's how to argue in good faith. You have to take an argument which you don't agree with, and work to understand it so well that you can make that argument yourself, and then break it down from within

#

I don't argue against Islam any more than I argue against Buddhism, Judaism, or Hinduism. All people of all faiths believe themselves to be correct and I have no good reason to prefer one over another

storm mica
storm mica
storm mica
#

If Islam is true, immediately macro-evolution is false. It's that simple

#

It's simple, the Quran is infallible, while science is fallible. Why should I trust something fallible over infallible?

wild basin
# storm mica Exactly, you don't have observable evidence for Darwinian evolution to be true

theres plenty of evidence in fossils and dna and anatomy that prove that species evolve overtime to adapt to their environments, theres no present observable evidence because evolution is a slow moving process that happens over hundreds of thousands of years, though there are exceptions as rapid evolution is something thats been observed before though it isnt as drastic as normal evolution

storm mica
wild basin
#

what about dna? what about anatomical and biological studies even outside of fossils that prove evolution is real? are these also made up fabrications by big science to try discrediting islam and straying people away from it? i dont wanna seem like im jumping to conclusions but that seems to be the direction youre heading in if you think any and all evidence for evolution is nothing more than a fabrication. i dont think evolution is something thats made up because why would the scientific community as a whole fabricate something for the sake of discrediting religion when they are by extension discrediting multiple religions all with their own sets of beliefs

#

i dont know how this discussion is supposed to be constructive or beneficial at all when no matter what anyone says your response will always be something like ā€œthats fakeā€ or ā€œthats made upā€ then fall back onto something that has no hard solid evidence and something that the validity and proof of which can be endlessly debated until the end of time

crisp shell
wild basin
#

to me it sounds like youre not dismissing evolution on the basis of anything with true hard evidence but because it invalidates your own beliefs

Argument:

DNA Is the Evidence That We Have a Common Ancestry

Assuming we have similar DNA with apes, this argument can't be made if you look at homology and homoplasy. Even in DNA levels you'd be incorrect to argue that we have common ancestry. There is counter examples to this notion. For example, bats and whales.

Source: Echolocation in Bats and Whales Based on Same Changes to Same Gene

That itself refutes that DNA is the definite determining factor of common ancestry since we have convergent evolution.

If Evolutionist Atheist still doesn't want to acknowledge that the problem of homology still present, look no further than science and the philosophers of science themselves such as Andrew Inkpen and Ford Doolittle

Science

The echolocation abilities of bats and whales, though different in their details, rely on the same changes to the same gene – Prestin. This is one of the most dramatic examples yet of ā€˜convergent evolution’, with physical changes mirrored by genetic ones.

APE-HUMAN GENETIC SIMILARITY FALSEHOOD:

Argument:

It is claimed that the genes of chimpanzees and humans bear a 98% similarity and assume that this shows their closeness, which is used as evidence for the theory of evolution.

Rebuttal:

In order to claim that the genetic structures of human beings and chimpanzees bear a 98% similarity, the entire chimpanzee genetic code would have to be mapped, in the way the human one has. Then the two would have to be compared, to obtain the results. Yet no such results are yet available: While the human genetic map has been completed, the chimpanzee equivalent has not.

Propaganda

In fact, the ā€œ98% similarity between human and ape genesā€ slogan was deliberately produced for propaganda purposes many years ago. This ā€œsimilarityā€ is a highly exaggerated generalization, based on a similarity in the amino acid sequences in between 30 and 40 of the basic proteins present in man and ape. Sequence analysis of the DNA strings corresponding to these proteins was performed using a method known as ā€œDNA hybridization.ā€ and only these limited proteins were compared. Yet there are around 30,000 genes in human beings and these genes encode some 200,000 proteins. There is thus no scientific justification for claiming, on the basis of a similarity in 40 proteins out of 200,000, any 98% resemblance between human and ape genetics. The DNA comparison of those 40 proteins is also questionable. Two biologists named Charles Sibley and Jon Edward Ahlquist carried out the comparison in 1987 and published the results in the Journal of Molecular Evolution.(Hubert Journal of Molecular Evolution, Vol. 26, pp. 99-121.)

# storm mica # APE-HUMAN GENETIC SIMILARITY FALSEHOOD: ## Argument: It is claimed that the ge...
  1. Claim: 98% Genetic Similarity
The statement that humans and chimpanzees share approximately 98% genetic similarity is a widely accepted figure in modern biology. This estimate originates from early studies, such as those by Sibley and Ahlquist in the 1980s, which used DNA hybridization techniques to compare genetic material. Subsequent advancements, including full genome sequencing, have refined this figure, but it remains broadly accurate.
  2. Rebuttal: Incomplete Chimpanzee Genome Mapping
The rebuttal argues that the chimpanzee genome was not fully mapped at the time of the claim, and thus, a comprehensive comparison with the human genome (which was completed in 2003) was not possible. This is partially true for the time when early studies (like Sibley and Ahlquist’s) were conducted. However, this argument is outdated. The chimpanzee genome was fully sequenced in 2005 by the Chimpanzee Sequencing and Analysis Consortium, published in Nature (Vol. 437, pp. 69-87). This allowed for a detailed comparison with the human genome.
Modern comparisons confirm that humans and chimpanzees share approximately 98-99% similarity in their DNA sequences when considering single-nucleotide differences in aligned regions of the genome. However, this figure refers specifically to the sequence identity of protein-coding regions and does not account for structural variations, such as insertions, deletions, or duplications, which can increase the genetic differences slightly.
#
  1. Propaganda Allegation
The claim that the 98% similarity is ā€œpropagandaā€ based on a limited comparison of 30-40 proteins is misleading. While early studies, such as Sibley and Ahlquist’s 1987 work (Journal of Molecular Evolution, Vol. 26, pp. 99-121), relied on DNA hybridization and focused on a subset of genetic material, these studies were foundational but not exhaustive. Modern genomic sequencing has since compared the entire genomes of humans and chimpanzees, not just a handful of proteins.
The human genome contains approximately 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes (not 30,000 as stated in the rebuttal), which encode a larger number of proteins due to alternative splicing (closer to 100,000-200,000 proteins). The 98% similarity figure is based on nucleotide sequence comparisons across the genome, not just a small set of proteins. The rebuttal’s assertion that the similarity is an exaggeration based on 40 proteins out of 200,000 is incorrect, as whole-genome comparisons now underpin the estimate.
  2. Scientific Justification
The 98-99% similarity figure is not a generalization but a well-supported estimate derived from rigorous genomic analysis. Key points include:
    • Nucleotide Similarity: When comparing aligned DNA sequences, humans and chimpanzees share approximately 98-99% identical nucleotides in coding regions. This is based on whole-genome sequencing, not just DNA hybridization.
    • Structural Variations: Differences in genome structure (insertions, deletions, duplications) reduce overall similarity slightly, to about 95-96% when these are included.
    • Functional Differences: Even small genetic differences can lead to significant phenotypic variation due to regulatory regions, gene expression, and epigenetic factors. The rebuttal’s focus on protein numbers oversimplifies this complexity.
#
  1. Sibley and Ahlquist’s Study
The 1987 study by Sibley and Ahlquist was a pioneering effort using DNA hybridization to estimate genetic distances between species. While their methods were limited compared to modern sequencing, their findings were consistent with evolutionary relationships and have been validated by subsequent genomic studies. The rebuttal’s implication that their work is unreliable or propagandistic ignores its historical context and the corroboration provided by later research.
  2. Evolutionary Implications
The genetic similarity between humans and chimpanzees is one line of evidence supporting common ancestry in evolutionary biology, but it is not the sole evidence. Other data, including fossil records, morphological similarities, and molecular phylogenetics, also support this conclusion. The rebuttal’s suggestion that the 98% figure is used misleadingly to promote evolution oversimplifies the broader scientific consensus, which is built on multiple converging lines of evidence.
    Conclusion
The claim that the 98% genetic similarity between humans and chimpanzees is a falsehood or propaganda is not supported by current scientific evidence. While early studies had limitations, the completion of the chimpanzee genome in 2005 and subsequent comparisons confirm a high degree of genetic similarity (98-99% for nucleotide sequences, slightly lower when structural variations are included). The rebuttal’s arguments are outdated or misrepresent the scope of modern genomic research. The similarity figure is not based on a small subset of proteins but on comprehensive genome-wide comparisons.

I don't have the money for a course or anything so I don't know the effectiveness
@glad bison you don't need money, nor a course, to be effective in learning something, whether that would be a language or a subject. So long as you receive feedback from people who/sources that are qualified, you are already on a reliable path. Other factors, like having fun and not having a lot of stress, play a roll in how you pursue a subject (and of course affording time and effort). Just my opinion.

What you need is something you that helps you learn a language.

For me, a course could help me because I feel like my discipline is not good enough in order to learn a language on my own with primarily online resources, including Discord and native speakers. While this server is very helpful and I am glad I have found this server, I shouldn't expect nor rely on this server to constantly help me, such as in #šŸøćƒ»źœ±į“˜āˆ•principiante . This, however, is solely based on personal reasons, so I can only say this for my own.

The reason why I question the effectiveness of a course is because of how it may be designed. This can vary per course, so I won't go into detail about what they each may entail, but I do want to point out how you could effectively learn. Consistent (daily) exposure of a language helps a lot in learning, since you want to keep the patterns you have already learned/noticed from the language be repeated in your head. Same goes for words. Other factors, like having fun, also play an important role, especially if you learn the language out of fun. Why continue learning a language if the fun goes away? Of course, assuming you started learning because of fun. You can do all this without a course and a course can diminish fun.

I've said it multiple times and I'm going to reiterate: this is my perception of learning. I'm open for anyone who thinks otherwise about this , if anyone bothered to read this wall of text that is dogekek

Yes I understand everything that you have said, the important thing about it is choosing the right course for YOU, not every method will work, nor will keep you engaged, the thing about discipline is it's not the same as school anymore anyway, you won't be in trouble if you slack or quit or anything, you need motivation and to enjoy what you're doing, at least from what I've seen, there are some courses where you can have like a free consultation to get a jist of the structure or you could email something in charge of it, if you're worried about the structure

Hey guys. I want to learn Spanish for livelihood reasons. However the cultural richness of the region is also important to me. By culture I don’t mean food, or politeness but rather things like literature, dance, political frameworks, etc. Now I am not saying that Latin America doesn’t have this. What I am saying is that so far it’s difficult to fully appreciate what does exist. This is because personally I don’t care about dance. So there’s that. I do care about literature and the latin america literary boom along with magical realism has interested me. The problem is, I think there is a disparity in cultural output between settler colonial and non settler colonial countries. I think non settler colonial countries with sufficent institutions to propagate itself has the most interesting cultures. For me Europe and Asia are great examples. I study literature as a passion, and I like studying the cultural and political contexts of a country. In your opinion, what do you think your country, if you’re latin american, or the region as a whole, has to offer to someone like me?

Don't worry about that. It was 60 seconds to investigate who insulted Jesus/Mohammed. After the investigation is conducted, the slowdown shall be removed. šŸ¤”šŸ¤”
