ie, since im a transgender man i wanted to learn how to talk about myself in spanish

so me being a gay transgender man, in a relationship w my nonbinary partner

i know spanish doesn’t really have gender-neutral terms so i might just stick to novio tho

first the basic stuff:

pronouns - you probably know "ella" and "él" but some people use the pronoun "elle" which is like neutral

for example -
elle tiene un perro (they have a dog)
elle es mi amigue (they are my friend)
elle es mi novie/pareja (they are my partner)

while is not widely accepted to use "elle" its becoming slowly more common

also "elle" has different grammar rules since you need to adapt some words to make it sound better

im gonna name a few identities from the top of my head just so you know the translation!

gay/homosexual (it stays the same way)

bisexual (same)
pansexual (same)
transgénero (transgender)
género fluido (genderfluid)
no binario/no binarie (non binary)

-sexual identities stay the same
-gender identities are changed to -género

let's say i want to introduce myself:

hola, mi nombre es maxi, mis pronombres son él/ella, soy no binario y bisexual

also the term "queer" is not that common but some people use it in spanish!

With all due respect when I hear is becoming more common happens more because of people getting offended by people not using those terms rather than be something happening organically, besides I think in a learning perspective way only provokes more confusion to a person learning rather than make things more clearly.

But anyway to each their own. I'm just speaking only based on accepted grammar rules and learning procress, and I'm no one to judge people by their sexual orientation and such. I just think from a learning process can be confusing

rules are made to be broken, if everyone waited until the RAE approved words we wouldnt be speaking as freely

I agree that languages evolve constantly but essentially speaking between grammar in Spanish while there's not an specific neutral pronouns many pronouns used in the vocabulary are to used mentioned things without specifying a gener.

Yes but if we talk about the evolution of language from a historical point of view, to an issue wether feels like imposing the idea of a neutral pronoun in a language that while doesn't have an specific neutral pronoun, grammatically speaking doesn't necessarily need to have a proper neutral pronoun, because as always their use is based on the context (such as personal pronouns, speaking of the Spanish language)

What I'm trying to ask you is that you made me assume that the whole grammatically and linguistic structure of a language who constantly has evolved through centuries and that has a clear structure with their criticism is "not about what the language needs" more "what the people need"

I understand your point, the Spanish language as such, grammatically speaking, does not need the insertion of a neutral pronoun to serve the majority, because the language has enough resources. What exists is a social and symbolic demand for Non-binary communities. The Spanish language is quite enriched with various forms of expression so as not to exclude anyone, but the speech must be modified so as not to alter the grammar so much. Honestly, if you want to learn gender neutral on your own and at your leisure, go ahead, you are free, as well as those who do not want to do it, but know how to be inclusive in their speech.

for a couple reasons

1. i live in texas so we have a lot of native spanish speakers
2. we have a lot of spanish speakers come into my job that don’t speak any english so i want to be able to converse with them

also, trying to avoid getting too political, things are kind of rough for the latino community in the U.S. rn and i think one way i can be a better ally is to speak the language
obviously things vary based on dialect and stuff but still a baseline understanding wouldn’t hurt

i like being able to talk to people in their native tongue because i can sometimes see like, a wave of relief on their face

What are you looking for exactly? I think people with learning disabilities have a very vast amount of different learning methods within so it'll depend on the person you're working with.
I think rather than focus on their disability, focus on how they learn best and find resources specifically for that.
Do they understand things better hearing? Reading? Writing? Rephrasing things/retelling? Making summaries? Physically trying? Etc
