it's a bit all over the place in my experience

1. as pajarraco (lol) said, if it's followed by a vowel you don't roll it. (see also: connected speech)
2. when it's sentence-final or followed by a pause, I'm fairly sure it varies person to person. I might be wrong, though. usually it turns into mush

I actually had to Google this! So here's why from my research:

1. California not only has good weather, but every single kind of weather. You can go west for a beach scene, north for a snow scene (there are snowy parts of California), to Death Valley for a desert scene, and more. And unlike places like the UK, you don't have frequent rainfall that makes you have to stop filming for weeks. It's sunny while also having climates as diverse as a Pokémon region.

2. Thomas Edison had so many patents that he made it expensive to make films. So instead of fighting against him, they went to California, where judges were less likely to be on Thomas Edison's side.

3. Even if they wanted to change filming locations, California already has so many studios and equipment for filming. It would be pretty costly to move everyone to the middle of nowhere to film one scene of a movie, so they tend to stick to California.

tbh im not a huge computing nerd so im not sure what to really make of it lol

a huge drawback seems like the neuron lifetime

and i'd imagine it has a super steep cost

it seems like it'd really only be used for very niche learning algorithms and those types of things

ive seen some organoid research and it is interesting

but with cerebral organoids, it's a little on the hazy side of ethics

afaik, they're not conscious but are capable of making connections through synapses like regular brain cells

the fact that the carbon dioxide and O2 count is measured on the screen makes me think that a lot can go wrong with the computer if the proper conditions arent met

i think it could be useful in research for discovering how the brain learns, processes, and stores info

as opposed to AI which require way more than that

if they are more efficient, both in terms of energy usage as well as learning time, then i could see them being a very useful alternative to AI models that require deep reinforcement learning. this is, of course, given that the funding for such expenditures is present

culturing cells is a very finicky process and may be hard to reliably scale, so

as always, there are pros and cons associated with these types of things

not to mention the ethics

is there a point where the cells reach not just sentience but also consciousness? or they are able to experience pain, fatigue, or some other sort of nocive response?
