this is gonna sound dumb right, but in undertale, there are two characters that are brothers and it was purposefully left ambiguous in english which one was older, but reportedly japanese does not have a word for brother that does not convey the age difference so he needed to pick who was older, but i have seen a few people suggest the word 兄弟. why was that word not used

The thing about the word 兄弟 is that although yes it does mean sibling it's quite unnatural to call your brother that in an everyday context when talking to said brother. You usually have to say it, especially if you're the younger person (can't just call them their name cuz it's rude). The way they dealt with this was by having them call each other oniisan in order to confuse the players and leave it intentionally ambiguous

Hi! I’m starting a new school soon and need to choose between ASL 1 and Spanish 1 before Monday. I already know some ASL but think Spanish might be more useful for future resumes and meeting new people, especially since I live in Texas and might move schools next year. If I move and the new school doesn’t offer ASL, I feel like it would be a wasted year that I could have spent learning Spanish. My cousins in Spanish 3 are telling me not to take the class, saying I can use translators and won’t need Spanish for the jobs I'm considering. I love ASL for sure I'm just debating bc I think Spanish might be more useful and if I move schools amd they don't have ASL and I went with it this year then I would be a year behind in Spanish. And yea ig Spanish is easier than other languages. I'm thinking it can't be that bad yk

I have a great teacher and learn very well in a classroom so Spanish classes are great for me. This is not true everywhere for everyone

That would be a hard decision cause both are really useful. But I still think ASL would be better, only because it's hard to find courses. But Spanish is literally everywhere
