Not really a bug but very annoying. I have 6 old games that seem to be persistent. I can delete the files when steam is or is not running, yet whenever I restart steam the old cloud saves puts them back in my file folder. Is there a way to get rid of them permanently? They don't even show up as saves when I am playing the game, yet the files keep coming back to take up space on my hard drive.

They still come back even after deleting them and the cloud sync happens? Surely the sync would register that they have been deleted after exiting the game so the next time you enter the game they remain deleted
Yeah I can delete, wait for the sync to happen. Close steam, and whenever I reopen steam they pop back up in my save games folder. It's frustrating
I just know I have 6.
try this
- disable steam cloud in steam -> settings -> cloud
- delete save games you need to delete in windows.
- start the game
- exit the game
- turn on steam cloud and hopefully it should not download it anymore with next start
Cool thanks I will give it a shot
Well that didn't work. Any more suggestions?
annnnd now I lost everything
But how? If you only deleted the old maps?? 😬
I will try to restore your data on monday
as for deleting files which are no longer accessible from game - steam send them as whole package and it actualize the process every time so your only chance is to confuse it by making similar data. So lets say you want to delete save with name "SPIRIT"
- disable the steam cloud (just for ylands is enough so in steam -> ylands -> properties -> general)
- start game
- delete the save with name "SPIRIT" in windows
4.start new creative game and name it exactly the same "SPIRIT" - leave to main menu -> game will save
- exit game
- now turn on steam cloud again and start the game -> steam cloud will see conflict in data and will ask you which data you want to upload -> you will choose the new one and you will gate rid of these saves forever
if this will not work just let me know and i try to contact someone from steam and will make some game command into 2.2
Yeah that's what I did handofthesly, thought I could restore them with backup files but it wasn't possible. Chocho helped me rescue my ship though thank god. I had everything on it. I will try to disable the cloud for ylands and see if I can get rid of the files how chocho is describing. The files are still there but perhaps if I name some creative games with exactly the same name it will work after I delete the old files.
@inland radish ok so there is no easy solution in UI and UI guys are quite busy, so we created at least a simple command for 2.2 /deletesave <name>
which will delete save both from folder and steamcloud
Awesome thanks Chocho! That's a lot simpler than the workaround of disabling the cloud saves and naming a new game the exact same name method. I'm assuming the command will be used in the /cmdlist section of the chat interface?
yes
Well the good news is this worked for about 30 of the stubborn files, the bad news is there are still 5 files that just won't go away. Let me know what to do when you get back from vacation Chocho
sigh well that is a problem ( I was afraid it can come to that) since that means that steam keeps it under different name thus we cannot access it, well I will try to consult it with some people if there is some other solution.
ok so in 2.3 we will be able to download all content (names) which are stored on steamcloud so we can take a look how they are named and delete them forever.
Cool. I think some of them have a problem because of some of the symbols. For instance I had one that I named after the traders. "Andre, Morten, Eddie" somehow changed to include the "_" symbol. Now it's named "ANDRE_MORTEN_EDDIE"
