#How to share my Unity game with another developer?

How can I share my unity game with another developer without putting my game in jeopardy. I mean I know about unity collaborate and plastic scm. However, how can share with a developer who I will work for the first time without giving him access of downloading my game files. I mean if I collaborate, can he steal my game idea and every file? Please help me out and guide me, this is my first time doing something like this? Thanks.

What kind of work will they be doing? Theoretically you could ask them to write code without giving them access to the rest of the project but they'll be tremendously hampered, assuming they even agree to work that way. You could also create a git repo with minimal files and hope it's enough for them to work. Ultimately the best way to protect yourself is to have a contract, interview the person enough to feel comfortable sharing the project, etc

Hi, yeah basically I need him to add some other obstacles in the game, make my achiement to pop put when they are reached, and add powerups in the game? I told him I will send all the scripts that is necessary, but he said no share the project. He told me if we use the unity collaborate, then "that allow me to have access to the game without have the files". This sentences he said it does not make sense to me, if I share my project he will have the files too right?

This is my first time and I worked so hard on this game, I just don't want to give such a big access to someone who I barerly know. However, I do need help in making this better

You could use PlasticSCM or Unity Collab

turbid moth
#

Yes, but without the full project he won't be able to complete the tasks

naive fjord
#

But to give him access I recommend you PlasticSCM

naive fjord

Yeah UnityCollab is kinda old

naive fjord
#

Well that's the risk

#

You should not give your project to the person you don't really know

turbid moth
#

No offense, but you said you need his help to improve on your work. Sounds like he could easily spin up his own project if he wanted to.

naive fjord
#

Yeah I agree

late haven
#

yes, he is smart at unity. But I have creative mindset, that too different stuff. You can be a good programmer but if you don't have good ideas your just a tool

#

I appreciate you guys taking your time to help me out, it means a lot

naive fjord
#

If you need help you could always ask here or maybe on stack overflow, artificial intelligence or yt

late haven
#

With plastic scm, do I have access to delete every files over his side once i finish contract with him?

turbid moth
#

No

late haven
#

is there any other features I can on plastic scm to be safe?

naive fjord
#

Nope

turbid moth
#

Basically, don't share if you don't trust him

naive fjord
#

I wouldn't recommend giving your project to the guy you don't trust, just learn more and practice, we could always help you

turbid moth
#

But also be honest with yourself - is the project worth stealing? (might be, I haven't seen it so I have no idea)

late haven
#

check out my game out and tell me honest what you think, it's called fun rise royals

#

but anyways, the reason I know him I paid him to help me make animation without me giving him access, and he helped and teached without me sharing the project, but know when I want to add other stuff he said it's too hard without me sharing the project

#

I kinda do trust, but I would like to take a safe measure too just in cause you know what I mean? Maybe lock certain files, or do something that if you guys are familiar with plastic scm

naive fjord
#

Nah bro you can't do that🥲

late haven
#

What would you guys do in my shoes, what safe measurement would you have taken?

turbid moth
#

Nope. Once he has a copy of the files he can do whatever he wants, including creating a hundred more copies. Like I said above you can have him sign a contract, which should give you some legal recourse if he does steal your stuff

naive fjord
#

Yup that's good idea but it won't be free

late haven
#

I am from USA, but he is from over the seas, so I am not familiar with a contract. I don't think the legal course does exist over seas. I konw about NDA and all but still it does not stop him from stealing like you said

turbid moth
#

Depends on the country. If it's worth this much worry over theft, it's worth getting a lawyer. If it isn't worth paying a lawyer, then it isn't worth this much worry

naive fjord
#

But can we help you? What did you ask him to help you?

late haven
#

You know those previews the game has, I mean when you first download the game, it shows you how to play the game for couple seconds, i forgot the term of this ?

turbid moth
#

Tutorial?

late haven
#

I believe it had another name, ahhh I forgot

#

do you know what I mean? hold on let me search then name

turbid moth
#

Gude? Walkthrough?

late haven
#

it's called onboarding tutorial to be exact

#

So basically, I need this onboarding tutorial, pop up of my achievemnts, add power ups, and add a cloud obstacle to my game? Can this be all done without me sharing the project.

#

Or are these easy stuff I can do by myself ughh. Thank you guys.

turbid moth
#

You should be able to find tutorials for pretty much all of that

late haven
#

Did you guys publish your own games, how much expeerienced are you guys? I just want to know how good you guys are in Unity 🙂

turbid moth
#

It's in early access but I do have a game on Steam

#

I should be working on the trailer for my next update but I'm procrastinating because I find video editing annoying

late haven
#

Can I put my ios and andorid app on steam too or no?

turbid moth
#

No, you'd have to use the Apple store for iPhones or Google Play (or similar) for Android

I mean he can turn it into a PC game

#

Ofc he can't upload Android game to steam💀
