Has LuckPerms been exploited/hacked?

Most certainly: no. In most cases a 'LuckPerms exploit' is a simple case of human error, which can be avoided easily. Look below for some tips to be on the safe side.

Don't give random people full ( * ) permissions / admin permissions

While this should be obvious, a lot of times a exploit can be traced back to faulty permission settings. You should always take your time with permissions and read the plugin documentations. In 99% of all cases the plugins have documentations explaining each permission, in the rare case that the plugin you are using does not have a documentation, you could still:
A: Ask the plugin developer for help
B: Use LuckPerms verbose functionality ( !verbose )
C: Select a different plugin with proper documentation.

Do not run your server/network in offline mode

If you are running your server or network in offline mode, hackers have it really easy to steal your, or any other admins identity. While the server is in offline mode, certain checks ( which exist to prevent exactly this ), are being skipped, and the server does not verify if the person joining actually is the person they claim to be. While there may be plugins which increase the security of offline mode servers by adding things such as admin codes, you should just switch it to online to prevent the issue in the first place.

Do not download plugins from shady websites / sent by friends

You should never put anything on your server which has not been downloaded by yourself from official sources. Plugins can be infected with malware which injects itself into all other plugins, and thus is hard to remove. While it may look like a plugin has been hacked, you most certainly downloaded a modified version of it and it is not the plugin authors fault. In case your server has been infected by such malware:

1. Stop the server
2. Delete all plugins in your plugins folder, and just to be safe also the server jar file
3. Re-Download all plugins and server jar files from official websites such as SpigotMC or official plugin websites ( luckperms.net for example ).
4. Check if there have been any modifications to the permission system and remove unknown users and wrong permissions.
   if you follow these steps you should have a clean server by the end, without exploits.

ok so, I'm kind of a "logical" guy. So what I'm trying to do is, with no plugin's installed, just setup LuckPerms and the regular MC commands ... user Commands into a group called Users, Op commands into a group called Moderators ... but I was wondering if there was a "quick" way to do it, like import a file that puts all the regular minecraft commands into sensible groups.

Someone has said to try installing EssentialsX and to use their node system to help "group" all the commands but I'm sorta getting lost. If the answer is to go through each command individually and decide what group to put it in, then thats cool but can someone then point me in the right direction for a list of these commands (preferably ordered by what type of user should have access to them?) Thanks in advance lol (sorry for being a pain in the butt lol)

there isnt really a 'generic permission setup', different plugins will have different permissions, and different servers will deem that different permissions should be given to different groups. your best bet (although i agree it can take time, but is better for you in the long run) is to look through all the permissions for the plugins and decide what group they should be given to

Keep in mind that for example the bukkit permissions aren't too 'sensitive'

Gamemode permissions in bukkit is like either give all or nothing

Essentials splits them into the 4 modes

My suggestion is to allow all player based placeholders to work with offline players which should be possible because the OfflinePlayer variable type exist with Bukkit.getOfflinePlayer() (the Bukkit.getOfflinePlayer() shouldn’t be needed though cause you get the player/offlineplayer variable from the setPlaceholders function from placeholder API).

The thing with placeholders is that they don't necessarily not work on offline players -- it works if the user data is loaded, that is always the case when the player is online, but it may be the case when they're offline (it will likely not be, but it will if e.g. another plugin loaded the user data or the user log off recently)
"well why not load the user data then?" because it takes time, IO, involving database queries or loading files, maybe halting the main thread (all user data is loaded async so that does not happen, but if the placeholder is requested on the main thread (which 99% of the time is because plugins be like that) then it will have to stop and wait for it until the query is done)
LP is partially made around having as little impact on server performance as possible (hence why loading users (and many other things involving reading/writing data) is "by default" done async (heck, even all commands run async!)), it's a "core" part of the plugin so changing it is not really something fitting, though if you can or know someone that can change this in the placeholder expansion, it's this line right here, rather than getUser it would loadUser instead

I really don't understand what people think when they say 'can i link plugin x with plugin y?' - how would one 'link' anything? Plugins like rankup are very much like deluxemenus, you can set up a requirement and if that is met, the rankup plugin will execute commands - any command: send a message to the player... maybe heal them, give them effects or whatever one chooses and also execute the luckperms command, which is set in the config(s) of rankup plugins. Imo, there is really no video needed. Most plugins are very well documented. The sad thing i see with rankup plugins is that some go for money, whereas you can do the very same thing with other, free plugins <.<

hey hey, so we're in a situation in which we need to merge one LuckPerms MySQL database's user permissions into another. my main problem is that when dumping the database to a file to work with and import, it dumps the auto incrementing id column. is there a better way to accomplish what I want to do that I'm unaware of? or am I gonna have to go figure out some regex pattern or smth to modify these statements to remove the id?

You know there are commands to give or take ranks from people in luckperms yea?
So, you don't really need a rankup plugin to make some ranking system players can use themselves. Any plugin that can run commands can be modified to act as 'rankup' assistance plugin. Let me give you an example:
There a menu plugins such as deluxemenus, which also has requirements and commands, so you can set that up to make a really nice looking gui with rankup buttons, which runs the lp command when clicked - completely free.
The same goes for other plugins that can run commands, such as commandsigns, conditional events plugin etc etc

So in the end, you don't need a rankup plugin, you can do it very well without one that isn't named specifically for that

^_^ just ask yourself what type of rankup would you like: through a gui, an item, or completely different conditions.
For gui, i highly recommend deluxemenus, for item i recommend vouchers, and for other things, you can look into working with conditional events, which is a plugin that can also execute commands on different conditions, for example if a player reached x coordinate and many more

LuckPerms does not perform any chat/tablist formatting of its own!

LuckPerms only acts as the source for prefixes / suffixes, it doesn't actually apply them. You need an appropriately configured chat/tablist formatting plugin for them to be displayed. If the values appear correctly when you run /lp user <user> info, LuckPerms is doing its job!
