No what happened here is they UUID spoofed as the all-zero UUID, which older versions of LP (like what you were running) treated as console, and thus as far as LP was concerned, they had * already

#

so I think it's a false alarm about malicious plugins, was just some odd behavior in older versions of LP that caused the issue.

Has LuckPerms been exploited/hacked?

Most certainly: no. In most cases a 'LuckPerms exploit' is a simple case of human error, which can be avoided easily. Look below for some tips to be on the safe side.

Don't give random people full ( * ) permissions / admin permissions

While this should be obvious, a lot of times a exploit can be traced back to faulty permission settings. You should always take your time with permissions and read the plugin documentations. In 99% of all cases the plugins have documentations explaining each permission, in the rare case that the plugin you are using does not have a documentation, you could still:
A: Ask the plugin developer for help
B: Use LuckPerms verbose functionality ( !verbose )
C: Select a different plugin with proper documentation.

Do not run your server/network in offline mode

If you are running your server or network in offline mode, hackers have it really easy to steal your, or any other admins identity. While the server is in offline mode, certain checks ( which exist to prevent exactly this ), are being skipped, and the server does not verify if the person joining actually is the person they claim to be. While there may be plugins which increase the security of offline mode servers by adding things such as admin codes, you should just switch it to online to prevent the issue in the first place.

Do not download plugins from shady websites / sent by friends

You should never put anything on your server which has not been downloaded by yourself from official sources. Plugins can be infected with malware which injects itself into all other plugins, and thus is hard to remove. While it may look like a plugin has been hacked, you most certainly downloaded a modified version of it and it is not the plugin authors fault. In case your server has been infected by such malware:

Stop the server
Delete all plugins in your plugins folder, and just to be safe also the server jar file
Re-Download all plugins and server jar files from official websites such as SpigotMC or official plugin websites ( luckperms.net for example ).
Check if there have been any modifications to the permission system and remove unknown users and wrong permissions.
if you follow these steps you should have a clean server by the end, without exploits.

if you're running a network, you should have something to prevent backend connections. i'd recommend bungeeguard for bungeecord/waterfall, velocity has something built in for it.

not opening the port for the backend servers would prevent people from connecting directly unless they're localhost, but i've seen people spoof 127.x.x.x multiple times.

LuckPerms does not perform any chat/tablist formatting of its own!

LuckPerms only acts as the source for prefixes / suffixes, it doesn't actually apply them. You need an appropriately configured chat/tablist formatting plugin for them to be displayed. If the values appear correctly when you run /lp user <user> info, LuckPerms is doing its job!

you could use PAPI's JavaScript functionality to 'wrap' a placeholder into another one that returns true or false

If the permissions don't show in the web-editor you can still add them

The web-editor will only display permissions that have been recently checked since last server restart. So if you're wanting permissions to show, you need to use the permissions. A good way is to run something like /help while OP

If they still don't show. Then use the commands/do the actions that require those permissions and they should show up next time you open a new web-editor session.

You can just type the permissions into the web-editor to add them to the user and/or group. It will still work even without the suggestions list.

im confused, my shop allows a player to buy a rank that exceeds thiers, so i set myself as top rank in game and i went to the shop to buy 3rd rank and it allows me, does it not check the server for what rank the player is?

Tebex is unaware of the fact that the user already has another rank. Remember: what knows which ranks are present in the game is luckperms, not tebex. Luckperms does not send data to tebex when a player already has/gets a rank solely with ingame mechanics. I guess that makes sense to you, thinking about it now. That is why my better half and i made tebex core sync plugin to allow writing rank data to tebex so it knows that something else is present

Basically. What tebex core sync does is not link lp and tebex directly. You basically cause a placebo purchase on tebex, so the rank gets applied thru tebex. Let me give you an example:
i user vouchers in which the command is the tebex core sync command. Players can use the voucher ingame, for example when they won it in crates, to then get the rank. Tebex core sync sets off 'a purchase' at the cost of 0 dollars. Now tebex knows the rank is present. Having that said, for users that do not have tebex data written yet, you will need to fix that yourself and catch up.
so this really isn't a 1:1 bridge, it needs a command excecuted just like the luckperms parent command. No matter by what other plugin. Menus, signs, whatever you use to make ranks available ingame without including tebex

that is excellent i get the concept. so if i migrate a player i need to placebo thier ranks in game using thier Package ids and then they can purchase from there. its a migration see i've never had a store before, so i will only need to run this for new players then as you say in the plugin when i run an ingame rank up i need to tell tebex too. Only thing i not clear on is the "no notifications if sent this way" how is that done as im only on the basic plan

Yes. Thing is this: Look at the example we listed for 'Conquering command delays'
So, let's say you set your tebex store to broadcast a message every time a player purchases something, well, those messages will also go off if a placebo purchase was used despite the fact that the player didn't purchase it, but instead got it via a voucher for instance

Online mode has a process called prelogin where mojang checks the players uuid. Luckperms depends on that process, in offline it disables that process and in doing that kinda messes luckperms up. Permission plugins don't work well in offline mode.
