LuckPerms assigns the default group to any player that joins and doesn't have a group, is not saved. This being said, you can define a prefix for your default group and use your chat and tablist formatting plugins to display it on there.

Literally all you need is a third party system, like a menu or something, that is capable of a: sending commands and b: fill in the player name and c: has a system that you want (i.e. take money either via api or command, or other "triggers")

So I'm unsure what you were on about. As i understood, you told him this is not possible to do without using the editor, which is not true. There is acommand to add groups/roles/ranks to players, which can be automated as i said.

I'd personally always go with singular, as you're granting the rank to a user in my eyes, rather than adding a set of users to a specific rank.

I agree with singular, but for a different reason. Singular implies it's about the user, where plural gives off "one of many" vibes. This is not really what you want, considering you want people to play on your server for as long as possible. There has to be some kind of pride or entitlement coming with the group membership to keep them engaged. "I am a <rank>" sounds way better and about the user and their accomplishments than "i am one of many <ranks>".
