It is no secret that Daedric Princes are as dangerous as they are powerful. They wreak destruction, craft devious plots, sow madness and cause untold deaths across Tamriel. And yet, many mortals still turn to worship them...

What reasons can you think of to worship Hircine, the Father of Manbeasts, Master of the Chase, and the Daedric Prince of Hunt and Half the Conscience of Man?

Being the Father of Huntsmen and Hunters makes hircines mortal niche stand out to me as one of the less overtly evil (besides manbeasts).

After all, fishermen, huntsmen, game catchers and people making a living by catching fresh prey, they all work for the hunt, regardless of if they even do worship Hircine.

No doubt some might, with Hircine, the deeper you go the more grandiose the hunt becomes though.

For most folk who live a simpler life, Hircine may be more a being to acknowledge and respect than one to outright revere.

Most who revere Hircine true, are either his children (manbeasts) or have a particular reason to do so. A lot of societies that acknowledge his presence scarcely outright worship him.

So in my mind it seems like most hunters respect hircine out of prudence, but few would worship him outright lest they sought more than what the life of a mortal huntsman could grant them.

The promise of more is what entices most to the Princes.

Honestly, i see why theres a corelation between Hircine and Dagon.
Natural Laws very often oppose Social Laws and Customs - if a person is dissatisfied with the social ladder, but has the strength to hunt and kill people, Hircine might give them the fair odds.
So, War Veterans, Hunters, Butchers, Gladiators - basically anyone that is accustomed to violence.

Its why Hircine chose to 'bless' the Companions specifically - they were attracting people like Aela and Skjor to their ranks that ended up hardcore Hircine worshippers.

I don't think Hircine chose to do it so much as the Companions sought him out

stuck stirrup
#

But anyways, i think natural violence is one of the aspects from Hircine's hunt that can attract many kinds of people. Its also where Hircine and Dagon overlap a bit

Yuh

#

I also think it's fun to consider the name PGE1 gives him

#

Hircine is Half the Conscience of Man

#

Which is to say, he's more than just thrill and hunt

stuck stirrup
#

"strong shall prey on the weak" and stuff

indigo fern
#

He's also good sportsmanship and fairness

#

But at the same time he is instinct and libido

#

It's one of the meanings of the word "hircine", the primary being "goat like" and the secondary being "possessing of a strong libido"

#

Libido here being not just in the sexual sense but in the psychoanalytical sense, as a base drive to do things and survive

#

That's your hunger, that's your too cold/too hot/too uncomfortable, that's you wanting things

stuck stirrup
#

Yeah, and Aela and Skjor very well represent the usual Hircine Worshippers.

Aela comes from a long line of wild hunters that became one with the nature,
then Skjor is a war veteran that is tired of petty political squabble, but still craves for violence even in the peaceful life, which is why he frst joined up with mercenaries, then the Companions.

Might be important to define the seperate of people that would want to worship Kyne as a means for hunting in a survival aspect. Where-as people would want to worship Hircine for hunting in the more pleasure aspect.

Sorry chief, your name is the same as the role so discord picked you over the role again

Would you mind changing your nick here or something?

Speaking of, how does one get the seeker role, it’s the “I wanna learn lore” role correct?

Yeah more of less. It's issued by mods, ask one and you'll get it

Hircine seems to be one of the few princes that actually cares about their followers (so long as you don't directly disobey him, obviously)

#

Unironically yeah. It's funny how the Dunmer have the "good Daedra" when Hircine, Malacath, and Nocturnal exist

#

I don't count Sanguine because he strikes me more as a Dionysus type who will use the alure of debauchery to fuck people over.

Still think muscular gladiator is a better idea, especially because the Imperial Arena is beyond brutal

Gladiator Barbarian who in worst case, just uses his opponent as a weapon

Do druids bow to hircine?

#

No, don't think so.

Druids are more in line with Y'ffre and Kynareth

If i were hircine a druid, especially a changeling, would be a super cool hunt

Hircine is like the perversion of nature in a sense if im reading it right.

Hircine is about the hunt and the sport, but in nature animals hunt to survive, not for the thrill of it. They dont necessarily kill out of enjoyment, they kill for necessity and survival

#

To a druid, Hircine is amongst their deepest enemies, Hircine ensnares and hunts the beasts of the wild in his hunting grounds and entices mortals to hunt rare and beautiful game for his amusement (see; Unicorns)

#

A druid who worships Hircine would either be a particularly nasty one (even firesong wouldnt go for Hircine I think and they're like... the worst) or a walking contradiction (which is a fun character type)

#

Dont get me wrong Druids will kill an animal for practical reasons but they wont go out of their way to hunt them

#

Unless its for practical reasons

#

Like culling herds, getting food, pelts et cetera

To me Hircine represents one of those forces of Nature that balances the principles of life creation, but perverted with desire to the point of making it not out of necessity, but also for the hell of it (aka fun & thrill).
Don't get me wrong, as Sovereign put out, hunting out of necessity is still pretty much considered a good thing (Worshippers of Y'ffre, Kyne and especially the Skaal are the main proponents of this way of life). Though considering that many of the Daedric Princes do the workings of their sphere for their own amusement as per their above-and-beyond morality, the concept of the thrill of the hunt is considerably repulsive.
