i looked at every revamp mod in thunderstore so far
thunderstore is the main place for ultrakill mods
Straymode is here only or is there a server ?
thunderstore is by far the most popular places for ultrakill mods, there might be some in other places but probably not many
nexus last time i checked is just cyber grind assets and whatnot
thunderstore is basically the only place
nexus barely has any mods and they are not updated anyway

if youre playing on a completely different ultrakill, then i dunno how that'll work, but if you replaced the original ultrakill files with a downpatched version then it should work

ok id say thats more of a workaround
when you downpatch you typically just get a bunch of files that are not connected to steam
and r2 doesnt like that
but theoretically if you add downpatched ultrakill as a non-steam game to the launcher it could work

tried downloading every most recent version and f7 does nothing, however f8 pulls up a cryptic log saying I have 0 plugins yet I dropped stuff in bepinex plugins folder as dll's and they still don't work.
you have to change a config option for unity explorer to work iirc
i think it's Disable EventSystem override = true
in com.sinai.unityexplorer.cfg
turns out my version of bepinex was bad, redownloaded it and did what chat gpt said. Things now work after working with looping troubleshooting going nowhere until I suggest that the thing loading the plugins itself was bad.
I was supposed to use:
UnityExplorer.BepInEx5.Mono.zip (extract the two dlls to plugins)
BepInEx_win_x64_5.4.23.3.zip (fixed this file by redownload)

Yeah it shows you how to downpatch the one you have pinned, but it doesn't show the proper version of Ultrakill, what version of BepinEx works with that version. The guide I made is for 15d, and all the mods that I see on thunderstore use BepinEx 5.4.2100 and now since I posted the guide, every mod I've downloaded so far has worked flawlessly. I'm not wanting to like get anything out of this, I just wanted to help people.
UltraTweaker, Movement+, Ranktitle Swapper, Style Editor, ect all work
for the record bepinex versions don't really matter that much as long as it's at least 5.4.19 i believe
and not bepinex 6 since that uses a different format for plugins and won't recognize anything made for bepinex 5

For like a screenshot or a proper mod? Cause again, you can do that with UnityExplorer on the current version instead of bothering with ultrakull

Honestly, modifying some text is how I got my start into modding by just editing the "Size: 1" text from 5-S to say "Size: 2"
if you're just doing this to mess around, the best option is to use UnityExplorer, find where the specific text is, and modify it
I mean... You could do that as well. Depends on what your end-goal is
UnityExplorer is for temporary changes if you just want a screenshot or something
ultrakull for permanent changes but on an older version of the game
if you want something more permanent you could make your own mod. Check the pins if you're interested and don't hesitate to ask for help here

you dont need r2modman open to run modded ultrakill! you can close as soon as you press modded
if you dont feel like going into r2 to play modded, there is a way to set the steam play button to start modded
(the guide on how to do so is in r2 itself)

I mean, there's valid reasons to use a mod manager, but I feel like people should be aware of the alternative
its always really annoying trying to find where i have to put things
and you cant one-click enable or disable mods, you have to uninstall them if you dont feel like playing with certain mods
and you cant automatically download dependencies, meaning if you dont know theres a dependency you then have to figure out why everythings exploded
it's really simple: you download a zip. Inside the zip there's some files. If there's a dll, just drag and drop it into Bepinex/Plugins. If there's a folder, drag the folder instead.

but sometimes people have issues that would easily be solved by manually downloading their mods

Manual is fine for me since you don't have "tons" of mods. Imagine trying to mod rimworld manually (100s of mods)
That's what I'm saying. I can't think of a single Ultrakill mod with more than 3 dependencies. I tried modding Rounds once manually and quickly realized how big of a mistake that was when I saw that every mod had like 30 dependencies. Hell naw

An Ultrakill-specific tutorial could go over Ultrakill-specific info. Although there isn't that much. Maybe it could go over using Rude for making asset bundles? Yeah, idk, the more I think about it, the more unrealistic it seems

hi ya'll, was looking to see if i could create my own ultrakill mod from scratch (would be my first time attempting anything like this) and i had a look online but couldn't find any up to date resources on how to mod ultrakill, i was wanting to create some form of a short range teleport, like a functional arm similar to whiplash, but it just tps you to whatever enemy you're aiming, if anyone could offer some advice or send some resources my way that would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

If you install using r2modman, the mods are managed by r2modman and your game will only be modded if you launch through r2modman
If you install manually, your game will always be modded until you manually remove the mods
What I personally like to do is just rename the bepinex folder to something like bepinexx. Boom, mods don't launch anymore

if a mod has shaders aka ultrakill levels having special shaders are compiled only for d3d11 then it would cause bugs and crashes
from what I've seen of rude code and other stuff, both the spite and rude editors very much have ductaped fixes for spawning the player as the decompiled player prefab counterpart is pretty broken but THIS IS SLIGHTLY a theorey on why these crashes can happen, not fully confirmed

Well hey, I got gpt to compile a folder of just stuff that has the right bepinex version and the inspector thingy for unity and it works, so If I delete something I shouldn’t I can always just copy said folder and paste while replacing, and everything will work again. Crazy how gpt can package files using python.

custom scripts need to be compiled to dll
theyre usually written with the help of a template
regular .cs files won't do anything
in fact they might start breaking your rude install if there are errors in them
is there a way to move something without a custom script
id suggest looking into the 6-2 scene to see how moving platforms work
depending on what youre trying to do you can probably just get away with animator
i literally just want some floating platforms to enable and move upwards from far below right as the arena starts
there are a few scripts for moving stuff

and just plain unity animator should do the trick too

Some of the most abundant mods in the ultrakill community are the mods that fork mods such as ustmanager and ultraskins. these mods allow you to add custom audio/weapon skins to the game, which isn’t necessary a problem on its own, but there are so many of these mods that it makes sorting by last updated on thunderstore borderline unusable.
This isn’t an issue for ustmanager, since you can exclude mods with the audio tag, but its a huge problem for cosmetic mods.
My solution to this problem is adding a tag for cosmetic mods, this would allow excluding ultraskins mods that bloat the thunderstore page, and it could also fulfill a category of mods that customize the game’s textures and models.
