Not really. The Doom community has more or less standardized on GZDoom for single player and Zandronum (a GZDoom fork) for multiplayer, because there aren't any other source ports that are as well supported or feature rich.

In 2008, I started some very basic preliminary work on what a 3rd 'Action Doom' woudl be... and it was going to be an adventure game... think a Lucasarts game like 'The Dig' but set on a space station with combat. You would use your inventory to solve puzzles and shoot things inbetween.

I think 'Phocas Island 2' is probably the closest we ever came to that.

I'm interested to see how Fallen Aces turns out... the combat looks a lot more fun than the AD2 "move forward, punch, back up... repeat"

No, they were a group of heroes called the A.C.E.S. that protected the city 15 years before the events of the game. They were eventually disbanded and the members went there separate ways. Current day, many of them are mysteriously being murdered despite no one being able to know their true identities.

So the save system, you pull up a lil communicator and save. Depending on what difficulty you choose, you have a limited amount of saves. On easiest difficulty you can save as many times as you want.
