Look at it this way. Now that we are onboard with Newblood, we can work on the game farrr faster than we ever could just by ourselves. So if anything, you are getting a demo "sooner" with them being involved.

You don't really have to have tech knowledge, although that really helps. But study and understand game design, play games you love and figure out how they tick. Experiment and fail often.

I do the art, story, dialogue music direction and project oversite. As a designer I figure out how the maps will be set up, how the weapons and mechanics will work and feel. Jason does the grunt work by doing the actual programming and testing to see if those mechanics work well or not, when they do we polish them until they feel right.

I'll help with level design and art direction as well. But figuring out how your game is gonna play, your scope, and how to balance all your mechanics is important.

Yes, but we get tons of help from newblood by getting feedback on things but also asking them questions about programming or design that we aren't certain on.

It's kind of a "You scratch my back, I scratch yours..." type of thing. For example, I come up with character designs and concepts for Gloomwood and give ideas for character's or small story things related to art.

I feel like if you want that kind of game to be successful, basically the player should never have to do the same dungeon twice unless you're doing something really interesting with it. And I wouldn't know how to both constantly send the player to new locations while having collecting resources for crafting being a thing.

I played it years ago now. It's interesting, because while it sounds like it should be a grindy, repetitive game, it's really not. The customer interaction aspect combined with the dungeon crawling for items means there's always some level of decision making keeping you focused.

You build rapport with customers by selling things at prices they like, and there's always a bit of brinksmanship in trying to squeeze as much profit as possible out of them without upsetting them.
