faith really intrigues me primarily because of the story

the execution of how the story is told and the horror elements are really cool too

Yeah, and ||assuming demons are real or that on the very least he and John went through similar things, I wouldn't be surprised if they both shared similar sets of delusions, as a consequence of their "jobs" and how they perform it. Maybe they don't see the exact thing as each other, but they wouldn't doubt each other, they could assume that the other's mind was afflicted by the demon or maybe even recognize that demons could be presented under different guises to the same people||

While red is indeed generally a signal of cultists, I always interpreted the other colors as flavors unique to characters

Indeed, that could be a factor
It's hard to know for sure as we have very few possessed characters to compare, but it does seem like anyone who is fighting back against the demon has an easier time to get it out from them, Lisa is quite easy to exorcize despite hosting a very powerful demon, whereas Amy was most likely convinced by Gary to, at least initially, give herself out of free will
But there's that tidbit in Faith II (Confession scene) that apparently either John was haunted by dreams of Amy or was directly contacted by her (Maybe both) for him to help her, so who knows

When I think about it, I'd theorize that it's a time thing, and the longer someone's corrupted, the harder it is to banish the demon, as the demon warps the person and gradually becomes an essential part of it
Poor Michael is a good example of that, he doesn't seem to host a powerful demon (Michael is very straightforward to confront and has barely shown any special capabilities), but it's extremely hard to exorcize him

The Church does seem to be aware of what's happening. Like, in Faith I, there was this note about the priest who exchanged letters with Amy who told about San la Muerte, and he wasn't an exorcist

Imo the church is aware of the stuff but it does not take the situation seriously enough, certainly not serious enough to justify having their reputation tarnished socially

I think there may be more serious implications. What if it’s the intervention of demons? We see them messing with John via keeping him questioning if it is real. There is also the theory that John and Father Garcia are crazy. If the church does indeed have knowledge that these demons are active and can take physical form, it does seem negligent to the point of malice.

Weirdly enough, irl, there are claims that even as secularism has become common the church still gets more calls for exorcism now than decades ago. Most calls come from scared non religious families.

As much as people think the church might be overly eager to send exorcists, they are actually hard skeptics. Yes, this sounds contradictory but it’s been said by all ordained for them that the last person to be convinced a demon is there should be the exorcist themselves. This hasn’t always been so, but they are urged a lot to know that classic possession symptoms can be covers for abuse and mental problems.

Eyup. The Church has quite the selection process for that kind of thing. Ideally and almost always in the upper echelons, it is noteworthy that priests study psychology, philosophy and other such subjects. They ought to know how to, at least, differentiate between more common forms of mental disorders to something that might be considered unique enough to justify an exorcism.

I like to think of the things as being mostly real, but with plenty of hallucinating from John, just enough to make his narrative questionable and make people unable to trust him. It's interesting to consider how much and to what degree John exaggerated/hallucinated/was tricked to see. The best example I can think of is John's first meeting of Amy with Allred. Did he meet her in the attic or the basement? Did the demon warp reality? Is there something John forgot/didn't tell? Or did his memory become so fractured that the narrative broke down?
