@night ginkgo I may have found a small bug in AE. In my campaign i've only completed Ep1. After completing Ep1, I didn't immediately start Ep2, I went back to the Ep1 portal to see what was there. Then I replayed the boss battle a few times. Anyway, today I chose "continue" from the main menu, and it placed me in front of the Ep1 portal. When I entered the portal, it took me to E1M1 instead of showing me the level select menu. I returned to the Gateway and it did show my progress as having completed Ep1 when I walked over the hallway threshold. Then I went back to the Ep1 portal, entered, and this time it showed the level select menu as I expected. Now when I choose continue, it takes me directly to E1M1. So basically I seem to have "restarted" Ep1
