we just used them in the arcane realm
the crystal enemies were the only things made really
they were made realy early on actually

I don't think mipmapping works at all for retro pixel textures, if you look at old games, on incredibly harsh angles, the pixels are still crisp, mipmapping ruins that by adding an antialias effect to tight angles
I manually force unity textures not to use it, I think duskdev actually didn't although I never noticed anything in that game blurring
it can make it noisy at distance is all
I have the temporal alias on amid evil though, so it looks smooth as silk and makes my gpu turn into an air vent ๐
Im keen to know, what's your take on capsule collider for player movement? I know it's the easier solution on modern engines, but I do always notice that slope off right angles
Quake used raycast for collisions, and maybe Unreal Gold did too, so hard edges just go straight off

I've tried to find alternate solutions for the thing I'm working on but it always seems harder to do, and capsule glides over any terrain

Yeah, sometimes faking old engines now can be harder than it probably was to do back then
I've been using Bolt for Unity which is very similar to Blueprints. I must admit, nodeing was a bit strange at first, coming from trad coding and even event sheets, but it's surprising after a few weeks how easy it is to pick up nodes and spaghetti, some tricks you can do for reuse would be much harder in code
I think you said BP made a lot of AE development easier than it would have otherwise
yeah the workflow of BP is so fast
it's just another way of coding
I've done both and for me it's much faster than typing out code

I personally suggest these rectangular columns in the sacred arena being reduced in number, they not only separate the central room from the outer corridor, but also block most enemy shots especially homing ones and bouncing saws.
and removing walls between the central room and the outer corridor.
Currently you can simply run in the corridor area ignoring the central room for safer run.
Flying enemies get stuck at the corners of the corridor and walls and columns block enemy shots.

I am not good at platforming, but I loved the atmosphere of the Forges, so I really liked it

Gauntlet of Torment kinda reminded me of Cortex's castle frome Crash Bandicoot low key, and the platform puzzle really remind me of Lambda core from half life

Platforming in FPS is highly dependent on the movement system in the game
Dusk/AE have good movement systems
so platforming is functional in those games

T1 remastered with good controls has not so bad platforming

Yes, on arena zones having platforming can be quite fun. I enjoyed have platforming in those Doom 2016 area trap points with the booster pads. Same with Dusk. Jumping and blasting enemies is a.... blast!

The new Horde Hub looks great, makes it a lot easier to figure out which arena is which before going to the signs in front of the portals
Also: Can't reproduce the bug where the underwater effect in E1M1 doesn't display when jumping into the lake in the beginning at a deep spot anymore
For some reason, performance has taken a pretty big hit though, especially with fx like the axe pull. Verified game files already. Something the engine update may have caused?

Yeah, an axe pull or aeternum kill drops the frames to like 1 or less for a few seconds. It tends to get better with time, but not significantly

Like in other applications/games or in AE, like the UI etc.? Other games haven't changed lately, so I don't think it's driver-related or something. Splash screens and menu seems to be slower than before as well, but not as significantly as the in-game slowdowns

Can confirm that it was the copying process causing the slowdown. The axe slowdown still occurs the first time an enemy is pulled towards me, but it's a lot shorter and probably at around 5 fps

When starting any horde map, "No saving, scum" is displayed in the beginning. Seems like the game wants to autosave but can't. You could just remove the autosave when entering any of the three arenas

I feel that enemy variety and design is great now. Imo it's more the design of the encounters that could use some tweaking, like enemy placement and composition. Feels like all the tools are there to make it a really cool Episode to me, and it's pretty damn cool already
idea: a remix mode where all episodes have enemies from the total possible pool of enemies (so enemies of all episodes togeher)

After watching a livestream of episode 6, I finally figured out my problem with the health pickups in that episode. it wasn't that there was too much health. it was that there were too many small health pickups, so it was really easy to get a strong overheal if you are good at avoiding damage.

@meager tulip if I understand your question correctly.... I think the first world is mandatory first (cant remember if the second one is as well), but then the hub opens up and you can start doing them in different order. I think the final world will probably be locked off until you beat the rest.

Melee is already pretty powerful imo
Melee kills most small to medium enemies in 1-2 hits
The axe is one of the better FPS melee weapons
It received a major buff recently too

granting permission is actually a huge PITA. andrew's emial turned out to be useless. anything that isn't fair use (like the logo) basically has to be posted online with Creative Commons
but games probably don't need that
logo is easy and screenshots can be made by anyone
