i was thoroughly amused by such a small detail
How do you folks dealth with the Corrupt Spirit boss? As far as I know there's no quick way to beat him
hit him repeatedly
until he dies
if you can manage to get up close to him you can whack him with the axe as you circle strafe around him to dodge his rocks
he hits you less often when you're that close
there's also ||a hidden invuln powerup|| that can help, especially if you want to dump planets into his fat eye
Tried that but he still kept throwing me to the edge of the arena
I mean he's not hard and the invulnerability powerup helps, but I just feel like I'm not doing it right
nah he's just tanky
the further you are, the more likely you are to hit his rocks
and if you're at midrange, he'll pummel you with rocks
if you're really close though, you'll hit his eye more often and he'll hit you less often
i find that's the most ammo efficient way to take him down
i still had to resort to the axe on my evil warrior mode run, though. dude takes a beating
it requires mad circle strafing speed to not get blown back when you're up close, though
just keep coming at him like an angry zombie gorilla

The Corrupted Spirit predicts where you'll be if you were moving the past few seconds, it's all about determining what would happen a couple seconds after, so predicting his throws to where you 'would' be is the key of the fight to avoiding the boulders

i gave strafe a try and didn't even finish the tutorial because of how often i needed to reload
and these developers definitely know what they are doing most of the time

๐ Anecdotally every time I recommend Amid Evil to people they come back with "I'll probably try it when it leaves EA". I was nearly one of those people myself. My argument that the episodes are... well, episodic... fall on deaf ears. For that reason I think it's exciting that there's only one episode left before release, though I also hope this somehow doesn't have to mean the end of awesome new content.

E5M2 uses both keys as well. Silver is found in the crusher room after the hall of spikes, gold on the pillars above the room after the first laser trap

I'm doing an Evil Warrior run and so far (just beat Forges) it's pretty fair, except one part felt really cheap. The start of E2M2. For some reason you get absolutely swarmed at the start and your only weapon is a Voltride which is not very helpful in this very small very cramped spaced you have. If it was a Whisper's Edge (or better yet a Star of Torment) that whole section would be much more manageable

The sentinel facing the Celestial Claw has this problem too, even though he's further away
I also found out that Whispers Edge cuts through Spirit of Flame's projectiles. But now I'm wondering why is that the only instance of it? I know you can stop a Deacon's projectile but that's not as cool and a waste of green Mana. I'd like to see WEdge cut through more stuff

It's crystal, not ice, but yeah, very fun to use
whisper's edge is a fickle weapon, but i like the fact that edge hits do less damage to balance out the fact that it can hit multiple enemies. ๐
The multiple enemies thing seems a bit pointless
There aren't a lot of enemies that die in one hit and usually the projectile is destroyed
It becomes almost useless on Evil where enemies get a health boost
Think the W.E. should be buffed by cutting down more projectiles
Right now I think the only projectile it cuts through is the Blue Fire dudes in Forges
Which is, admittedly, very satisfying
Especially if you get a hit on all 3

but it's still pretty much of a workhorse for me against multiple enemy types
@night ginkgo Think I found another bug (or maybe a weird design choice) - When you damage the Forgemaster, souls appear ONLY at his spawn point
I learned very early on that there are projectiles that cancel it out, so I only use it on melee only enemies

Oh, that's what they're called. Yeah, basically a red version of the whisper projectile.

Also, the whisper's edge projectile seems to only pass through an enemy (on kill) if it's hit with the side
If you hit an enemy with the center it seems to disappear

Yeah, a direct hit does more damage but doesn't go through
There's even a loading screen tip that tells you about it

tho I havent completed all episodes on evil so I wouldnt know for sure
It's certainly useful against some enemies, but in my experience after Astral Equinox it gets outclassed by other weapons
In Domain of the Sentinels it gets immediately obsolete with the Star of Torment, which only costs 2 mana shots to take out a sentinel and doesn't spawn a parasite.
In Sacred Path enemies have too much HP and you usually have more ammo for the Celestial Claw
In Solar Solstice it's a bad idea to use it against the shielded dudes, and I prefer using the Axe or Voltride against the green guys
In Forges you get the Celestial Claw pretty early, Voltride/Azure Orb for spike drones, Star of Torment for saw drones and Aeturnum for everything else
In Astral Equinox everything has too much health and I prefer to use other weapons (even the weakest enemy takes 3 direct hits from the Whisper's Edge)
Well, then that's just your playstyle, and not a problem with the weapon itself

I thought a Star of Torment hit is roughly equal to one Celestial Claw shot (mainly tested on Rock Faces and Super Beholders) but a Golem takes 5 Torment shots and only 1-2 rockets

like if it can't find a good place to pin them
it will just explode an enemy instead
That's another thing, sometimes snakes explode immediately, sometimes they turn black and then explode
With Star of Torment in both cases
yeah it's because if it does enough damage to overkill it will explode immediately, if not they will play the usual death anim

@night ginkgo I have a suggestion. it would be pretty cool to have an option in the game to be able to use the same number too cycle through weapons that use the same mana type. like instead of having to press 3 for sword and 6 for mace, you could just press 3 to cycle between them.

Whenever I play I try to use all the weapons even the axe
the best weapon in the game is the voltride
the objective is to shoot everything with lightning until it explodes
or until you run out of lightning
then the objective is to get more lightning
all the weapons are really great and all feel viable to use at any difficulty, it's one of the best parts of AE
Especially when soul mode is involved

Man I thought E2M2 had a tough beginning, but E6M3 was a kick in the nuts
Get the sword at the start area, then run straight ahead and fall down the circle hole
Grab the soul mode and bobs your uncle
Yeah that's how I did it after a few deaths
I did try to make them fall down one time
In E6M2 I once saw a rider fall down the big hole in the gold key room
E2M2 isn't that tough. You just need to know when to pick up the soul powerup
It is pretty tough compared to the rest of the episode
E2M1 gives you a Star of Torment almost immediately
E2M3 gives you Whisper's Edge and a lot of ammo for it
I like to run past the first big room and activate soul mode in the corridor to get the most enemies
What I do is use the trident to kill everyone in the lower area before going up, THEN I pick the soul power up and rush towards the sword
You also have the Celestial Claw handy
I've fixed it my end, it was just a spawn offset issue

@night ginkgo You said you were having trouble coming up with ways to make the Gateway more intuitive, but have you considered making it dark/night time and use colored lights?
On a similar note, the portal to Solar Solstice right now is the most well hidden, and for a time I had trouble remembering where it was. Maybe if you put two torches in this here entrance it would get the player's attention more

using lights to your advantage would be a good idea
also perhaps making it more linear but explorable would be a good idea
lay it out in a more predictable way, make it darker, put some secrets and neat little areas in
light up the entrances with lights

Sacred Path - keep it as is

I'd say that making the gateway tiered would be a good idea
having the eye up at the top and prominent
maybe the first two can be underground, so when you beat them you emerge and see the whole complex
also, taking a page from Quake's Episode select and making each portal be surrounded with the aesthetic the episode has might be a good idea
that's what makes the episodes so easy to remember imo

Arcane Dimensions hub is one of my favorites. They use elements of the episode/levels architecture. Similar to Quake 1 with more detail.

Sweet. I was skeptical it was going to be a mere BrUtAl QuAkE at first but it's genuinely respectful of what made the original Quake work (and honestly I prefer it to 'nilla Quake now, along with AD)
I keep going back to that to study the level design. forgotten sepulcher is such an insane level.
but that said, really loved those AE ep 4 and 5 levels. Just started ep 6 yesterday
From what I saw of Andrew's music video for that one episode 6 tune I am greatly looking forward to getting there
It's both creative and beautiful looking and really transcends the game's Heretic/Hexen roots and becomes something unique

Bastion of the Blue Moon (Hard) with the AESTHETIC cheat on (just type in AESTHETIC during gameplay). It's actually not bad
There's a bunch of these screen filters as cheats in the Codex
But this one is the most fun imo, due to the music
