I just wish these games could get reviews based on their actual features and gameplay. The mainstream game coverage just goes on about 90s classics and ignores how fucking great AE actually is, at least from what I've seen.
I know it's hard to judge something like Amid Evil in a vaccum but it'd be nice to see it reviewed on it's own merits and not member berries
I know there's not much similarity but Dusk has the same issue - people just talking about Quake and how good Quake was instead of the actual game. I guess nostalgia is a powerful drug but I shouldn't have to visit a small-medium YouTube channel to actually get a review of the game itself lol

well if you dont limit your fps to a limit that you can sit at regularly you might be bouncing between slow attacks and fast attacks, i'd try capping it to 121 or if you can reach that try 61
attack animations are tied to frames and if you are at inconsistent frames itll change the amount of time between attacks
makes sense, fluctuating frame rate is hell on earth when trying to time things consistently
yeah i played the entirety of the game with slow axe swings lol, then i figured out the axe can go almost twice as fast and it turns into an amazing weapon
my only beef with the axe is that it has shorter range than it seems it should
otherwise very satisfying

I think this might be a Known bug? But if you make a Quick Save on a platform that needs an activation button , to make the platform move vertically. Activate the platform using the button then just Quick Load and you be in the place you originally started from but the platform will be moving, i noticed this on the map journeyman Way? were you get that megahealth going up the elevator i assume you are suppose to make haste and time the platform as it's going up?

I love how in the survival wave map the angelic knights have new golden variants not in the campaign; the flying one has 'throwing shields' that resemble the Centaur's from Hexen, and the golden varient of Undead Warrior-looking tall type has a floor flame attack akin to the one from Here/xen.

One thing I'm curious about tho is... will amid evil (and by extension DUSK) feature level creation? I mean for both unity and unreal there's probuilder and progrids so theoretically one could block out layouts even if not given a way to place assets and whatnot. It wpulkd be an obstacle tho, not knowing the proper scale to work at for each. :P
I say because, on HARD, I blazed thru the 3 episodes in a few hours. Not even the fastest time but like in many FPS games, once the mystery is solved and you understand what to expect from each monster and what all the items do u fight more strategically. Not sure if wave 13 is decent for survival, or if it goes on forever lol.

So I feel like giving a short summary of my thoughts on amid evil before I sit down and script my review video
Mechanics are solid, music is good, story is intriguing and the game is graphically very nice and stylized. The angular nature of everything combined with the shiny lighting effects gives everything a very nice mystical feel.
Enemies aren’t placed very smartly I feel and a lot of encounters can default to just running in the opposite direction while spamming a weapon in their direction until they die. Enemies in the third and first areas suffer from this quite a bit.
All in all, from what we’ve seen I’d give it a solid 7.5/10 in its current state! It’s very fun and the weapons are unique while feeling like fitting evolutions of the kind of magical shenanigans that heretic established. Very excited to see how the game develops.
Also those shadowy enemies in the third area can go fuck themselves with a rusty chainsaw
Pro tip: You can instakill the shadow creatures with the axe.
Yeah I know that but the windup and stuff can make timing a bitch, and plus at one point a bunch of them jumped on me and cornered me. I literally had like 5 health left after that. So that was fun.
Something I liked about Dusk is how it cuts down on chaser enemies more and more as you go. I think AE could stand to learn from that.

Also the flying flamethrower heads are a bit annoying. Maybe slow them down a bit to make backing away from them easier?
And maybe give them the ability to shoot balls of Fire if they’re too far away to use the flamethrower, just so they’re not utterly useless at long range.

I’d be down with the former approach considering you have to manually enter each episode. It’d be a nice excuse to make like a fucking hellgate.

I haven't noticed anything, however, you should look into disabling vsync if it's on since it can create generally input lag

endless 1 had more room to dodge and move around which is what dusk really excels at
I like hordes of evil for the same reason because it's nice and open to allow you to evade attacks
I feel like a lot more of my deaths in arena 2 were due to falling down when I didn't mean to or not having enough room to maneuver around explosive splash damage
It's not so much that it's cramped as the environment in 2 being kinda jarring to navigate. There's not really much ability to build up speed and hup around. Plus rather than feeling like one big arena it feels like you're jumping around between a few fairly seperated arenas, each of which are kinda just linear platforms. At least it feels like that until you get hit by someone from a separate section.
It's not a critical flaw and it's still enjoyable enough for me, so 🤷
horizontally small and too exposed of a map from the verticality, makes dodging bullets really hard when things spawn so many different angles from you and feels like there isn't really any where specifically good to hold but on the top of the silos crouching

And Voltride is sorta a hitscanner.

Quickly thought of a new episode progression as well. I was thinking about making solar solstice the second episode so that the issues about the enemy placement in e3 could be resolved by adding e2 enemies to the roster. Idk if you would prefer it though over the current one. I am very sceptic about a change in the episodes myself since e2 is so different than e1 that it shocks you, and I'm not sure how it would do for an e2 just for that. Talk about video game philosophies.

that's a nice feature you're suggesting actually, changing the aeternum's colour would be cool, the only one where it would make sense and be realistic. It could be done on other weapons but that would be impossible.

They measure AE in vertical FOV but I'm pretty sure it goes by horizontal
Man, playing AE with my exact same Duskworld sensitivity feels so good. Makes jumping off the upper levels in HoE mode while firing planets so much more precise for me.

I've noticed that in recent updates, the azure orb soul mode attack seems to cut out the audio. Is there some kind of "MaxChannels" thing in the .ini that could circumvent this? You used to be able to do this in older unreal engines (Bioshock 1 in particular)

i've found that soul'd staff of torment works extremely well if you hit it from below

normally it'd take half the shards at most, but for some reason, every single one of them hits instantly if you shoot it in the butt

i know golems get shrek'd by the claw and all small mooks get partyzapped by the voltride, but that besides...
if you can get the 2nd boss to land on an aeturnum shot, it does tons of damage
