I mean, pistol starting some of the levels in E4 can be pretty brutal, sure, but the levels were designed around pistol starting and absolutely give you everything you need to get through them if you know what you're doing. It makes the levels more tense and enjoyable, especially the first three episodes of Doom 1 which are really easy

Well if that's how you want to play that's your prerogative, but pistol starting gives you a new appreciation for how the levels flow and makes you really think about where the items are and what order you do things in. You start noticing things you didn't before and understanding the level design better. Plus it improves your techniques, making you think about ammo management and learn how to do stuff like run past enemies to deal with them later. If you've already played Doom on UV a few times, I do suggest it

It feels much more like a greater challenge instead of simply more damage or enemy health.

Boomer shooters are such an inherently replayable genre. First you beat the game on the medium difficulty. Then in a couple days, you decide you want to do it again, this time making sure to get all kills and secrets. And then you want to do it on a higher difficulty. And then you want to do it without saving. And then you want to do it pistol starting every level. And then you want to do it faster.

Not only was it the only pre-Xbox version that didn't have serious problems, but it's also enough of its own thing that even if you've played the PC version it's still worth checking out. A masterclass on how to do a conversion that necessarily can't be a carbon copy of the original, since so many ports in that era were basically just far worse versions of the original game

hey, in the dusk campaign my mouse wheel weapon switch is "inverted", so when I scroll down, it chooses the weapon in a slot to the left instead of a weapon to the right (i.e. when i scroll down while holding the pistol, it switches to the sickles instead of the shotgun). We may add rebinding in a future patch, but for now, the switch has rebinding baked into the OS, so we shipped with that in mind. As for the two jump buttons, its simply so that players who are used to jumping with a face button and players who like bumper jumping can play on the same layout :)

Well, the hole in particular is because far and away the MOST common forum thread we get about dusk is "where do i go at the end of e1m3???? im stuck!"
because SO many players miss the little hole
so we just simply knocked a hole in the wall
other than that, yes ofc we were able to reuse most of the pc version
but significant portions of the code had to be completely rewritten for performance reasons and other such under the hood stuff
we retuned a lot of really subtle gameplay stuff that pretty much nobody will ever notice
but it all had purpose

Any weapon damage from you voids it. Explosive barrels explosions void it even if not caused by you but fire barrels are okay even if you blow them up. Explosion from welders don’t void it. Reflected attacks don’t void it even if you kill them.

hey guys I just got Dusk with the bundle and I have a question regarding difficulty. I like challenges so I chose Cero Miedo as my starting difficulty. The problem is I feel like the game isn't giving me that much of a challenge. I've just finished E1M5 and I was wondering if the game picks up the difficulty curve at this point or if I should just pump it up to max difficulty. What do you guys think?

This was on the Linux build so I'm not sure if it also happens on Windows. Basic...
Another bug, lmk again if this is not the best place to report it. Got Dusk from GOG, Duskworld button inside the game on Manjaro fails, as it tries to run "Duskworld.exe" instead of the "DUSKWORLD.x86_64" file that comes on the game folder. Also, not sure if this is due to the MP client not launching from within the SP game client, but if i run it directly from the folder, the game is playable, but there are a few settings issues like no viewmodels, unable to set fullscreen etc.
Did manage to play my first Dusk LAN today, though, and it felt amazing. Feels like I'm right back on the killbox deathmatches of old

yeah the duskworld not launching under linux is a known issue that keeps getting reverted somehow 😅 as for your settings issue, im not sure whats going on there, you should be able to do that just fine?

I can try to record my game if you want to see how it looks, but basically changing most settings does nothing. Pixelization is set to a very high amount and messing on the slider does nothing, buttons like Fullscreen and Vsync don't do anything etc. a bit strange

So if you need info, i got the game from GOG website's direct launcher downloads as the Galaxy launcher isn't supported yet. Maybe that has something to do with duskworld coming without an .ini?
