buffer jumps generally mess up scroll wheel jumps

just press jump and hold when in the air, after jump let go, press again and hold and repeat. You'll get a perfect one everytime

or use autohops and it will be good enough too

if you like using the scroll wheel by habit, maybe middle mouse button or something with buffered I dunno

and you don't gain any speed, that would be if you jump late on your inputs. Say from doing something like trying to time perfect inputs every single jump manually

but on the second one with buffer jumps you just click and hold slightly before you hit the ground so you jump on the first possible chance

which means you never lose any speed. Scroll wheel jumping is generally a solution to games that don't allow you to do that by spamming tons of inputs as soon as you get near the ground so you get the best possible chance of not losing speed
