I wish that there was a way to activate -fast on lower difficulties. Monsters on CM do so much damage that I have to play very cautiously but lower difficulties feel way too slow
I've beaten the game on CM without too much difficulty but custom maps are less enjoyable when I'm getting one or two shot by most monsters

Depends on the map tho. I've played a few custom ones on CM that feel closer to duskmare because you have to play it nearly hitless while the vanilla campaign has a bunch of maps that have CM for the fastest completion

I decided to complete the game from the get-go on Cero Miedo. I'm used to the difficulty of these types of games, and I like secret hunting.
But absolutely heed the warning that Cero Miedo is not intended for a blind intro into the genre.

its punishing but not so much so it slows down the game and turns it into more of a tactical shooter

Dusk is a lot more simple than Ultrakill. But you get to bhop around and move fast. Similar polygonal style although it's a bit more backwoods horror. The levels are fun and memorable. If you like more traditional retro fps I'd highly recommend Dusk.
Music is super good too I listen to the album often.
You can still do some weapon swapping stuff but there's no crazy combos.
But it's really funn and if you can go in blind I'd highly recommend.

That was absolutely unreal, totally fantastic. I've never played an OS shooter like this before but my god that game was perfect. I loved how I learned to Bhop just from naturally playing and a surprise enemy near the end could do it too, It felt like I was being inducted into the cool kids club, I wasn't expecting the last boss either and it was one of the coolest reveals ever. I absolutely adored the entire thing @thorn trout

Went back and 100%'d Dusk. Hell of a game. Fun time all around, even if hitting rats with sickles is even harder than in real life. Even drew some MS Paint doodles for it since it's been sitting in my brain, which you can pretend I posted. I thought they were cool.
I appreciate it more after having played the narrative games - Wolf in Autumn etc, reminds me of System Shock's developer's background as a sim developer, or Friedkin's background as a documentary director prior to The Exorcist, in how heavily a background in storytelling informs Dusk. No room is wasted, no map is filler.
Never going to touch Duskmare again.
