I played Doom Eternal after beating Dusk and I was kinda disappointed that I can't BHop to 300% speed

when you jump off a high-ish point, if you time your jumps right it like converts the vertical momentum to horizontal
it's not the same but it's the closest you'll get
eternal and dusk have too different versions of speed
I do sometimes wish that Dusk had just a bit more tech to its movement for a bit more depth. Especially for momentum conservation.
there's some faked momentum conservation with explosives and crossbow recoil
not exactly sure how it works tho, might mess around more to find out
basically horizontal push just offsets your horizontal speed for a split second lol
but there could be a bit more to it than that
I've messed with it a lot. It's very brief. And you quickly return back to standard max player speed
one thing I haven't tried is whether it goes away after that split second even when you're airborne, but I get the suspicion/faint memories that it does

I like it too, but maybe people that like it less would like it more if it didn't have the delay
It would be easier for some jumps but I like the feeling of needing to pre shoot it to mortar jump quickly. At least you don't have to actually time it off a single set detonation time

one of our favorite negative reviews of the game just talks about that
the entire worth of the game lies in the baked shadows apparently
unfortunately dusk doesnt use raytracing so its not viable to have both nice shadows and dynamic environments

0.88 on 16:9 and 1920x1080 displays, I use this setting to keep the crosshair from having weird scaling where some parts of it are wider than others

I know, I've seen enough people get mad here for people posting here instead of the signup thing lol. But the state of multiplayer kind of makes me sad. The official servers can't seem to handle transitioning between levels properly and just in general it seems quite janky.
I'm also sad there's no dedicated server tool despite there being indications that it was in the works.

The dedicated server tool actually exists already. But there is a reason for why it wasnt released. We dont know what that reason just that David said in an that there is a reason. Apparently the dev who's currently making the switchport is the only dusk multiplayer developer and he can't dev because he's working on the switch port. The devs said that they think that CO-op would be fun and then they'd have networking code that they can use for duskworld or something. BUt idk if you want to play this game you just have to accept that it probably wont get any updates any time soon. I don't really care by this point i just play it cuz it's fun
Yeah, Dusk's gameplay is exactly what I'm looking for from an old-school Quake-like FPS. The movement is better than Quake. It's fantastic. But the "user experience" aspect of multiplayer is kinda sad and would benefit from several coats of polish.

The dw dev said that duskworld is just a hack for the singleplayer and that it's really janky and hard to work on. I just wonder what he can or can not do with it. I'd like to see some small balance changes to the maps. Not even changing any weapon stats, Just changing the amount of Rivet ammo on some maps would already go a long way
Duskworld is kinda in a rough spot because it's on a really old version of Unity now compared to every other version of Dusk
We've basically committed to waiting until co-op is done to continue DW dev

The server changes the level just fine
But yes, duskworld started out purely as a 1vs1 hack of the single player, just as a fun side distraction
We fleshed it out a little more than that because we could, but only went so far with it because we quickly realized it would be easier to develop it from the ground up
The current state of duskworld is mostly due to a perfect storm of bad planning, and bad timing
Plus, I'm not gonna lie, adding GOG cross play like ruined everything lol
Sounds like working on DW is a game of jenga really
We had to rush the gog version out the door to meat deadlines, and had to totally scrap and rewrite a bunch of already dubious stuff to get it to work
And it just destroyed reliability
Especially with regards to stuff like map changes

The plan is for it to not be, but it's just going to take time. While you could spend a bunch of resources messing about with the current version, it'd be a bit of a waste

uhm i just mean the extra rivet ammo next to the rivet itself. It's kind of a low ammo count map for most other weapons as well except for the rivet which makes it more op than it needs to be on that map because the map is already pretty narrow

By the level transitions, I mean that when it transitions to a new map, the weapons lock, you're unable to attack, and you're in this infinite bunny hop state. I have to reconnect for it to go away, so it may be SOME kind of connection issue, but it's reproducible every time.

I haven't had that happen to me before. I've just had the server sort of bug out for a couple seconds, like everyone freezing, but then everything would go back to normal
It also goes away when a match starts. But if nobody is on, you're stuck that way unless you reconnect

so is there any animation cancelling tech in DUSK? i've noticed little things, like if you time it right, you can end the animation for pulling out certain guns early by firing within a certain window, but other than that, are there any other ways to anim cancel?

that's why i like farm the most, factory is a little cramped for me and cathedral gives you too much room, i feel like farm is the perfect mix, especially given the enemy types

Dark sous is the quake of dusk
Duskmare doesn't feel at all like DE imo. CM fast is closer. Doom eternal doesn't punish mistakes that heavily and taking and recovering damage and resources is part of the combat loop while Duskmare is just don't get hit.

doom eternal is a crazy good game
so intense that I dont really even feel like playing it that much because it drains your stamina
pretty much the most tightly designed combat I've seen in a looooooong time
I felt like there were too many options for dealing w enemies

The basic idea behind that statement was that the longer an enemy is around the more opportunities it will have to one shot you. All the enemies still have optimal weapon counters. So switching weapons is important if you want to kill enemies as fast as possible/ don't want to waste ammo with bad weapon choices. So that means that you will be using all ammo types. Managing resources is still important. If i empty my "special" ammo (mortar, rivet, crossbow, Hunting rifle) on low level enemies i wont have enough to deal with heavier ones later and on top of that all these weapons have situations where they're better than others. If i play "just don't get hit" with one weapon out i will have to deal with way more enemies for longer periods of time and i will be more likely to die.

I get what you mean, but that's not really Duskmare exclusive, playing CM but fast allows for everything you've said but more because you don't have some of the RNG element of Duskmare. Duskmare endless is pretty fun but it's always felt more tactical and skewed poorly for risk reward. Doom eternal even on nightmare favors risk / reward combos way more so than Duskmare since it still allows for some damage and recovery

DM is def not slow. I used to restart CM because i'd loose my score multiplier so i ended up just playing DM because it just restarts for me. You can abuse the simple AI in DM and fight in situations where it's not "tactical" since you can limit the ammount of enemies you fight. But i guess you're right about the risk part.
I just mean CM but as aggressive as you can be. Like clearing 20 waves in around 9-10 min real time.
And I think DM endless is still nice, especially because it's non campaign and just survival. A bit like devil daggers. just to me DM always felt like offense thru defense while CM favors defense thru offense.
maybe i should upload a good DM run

i just think that the element of resource management and weapon switching is more present in DM because the game falls into that oldschool shooter trap where you can do whatever without really having to think about it i.e. killing everything with 2 weapons

In the current SDK version you can replace most sounds, some replacements don't work but that's due to a bug
All of that is being revamped for the next patch, including the folder structure (so we'll probably also need to put out an upgrade tool for old mods)

Your best bet for that would be the wiki, there's no in-game codex or anything like that

if the original quake was ever to have a genuine sequel, the only thing i want out of it is shoot, lots of questions, and no questions answered, for me this is what made quake awesome and unique, you go through the whole thing, yet you learn nothing about the incomprehensible world around you, because it's just that something that our minds can't even comprehend, i have nothing but respect for that, today is all this shit of feeding lore so fanboys can rub their eggnong on top of that crap.

I really want ID to make a new quake like that with the same attention to detail and love it gave to the DOOM reboots. Not quake in the same style as the doom reboots, but how doom got doom-ier they take base quake 1 and make it quake-ier

Knowing the lore always gives me a weird feeling of "I know what happened here" and it gives me the ghostly feeling of something else being thore
I think sometimes Less is more though and can be great for story telling
given quakes inspirations with lovecraft themes, the less is more style of lore fits better imo
they're def going to have story and lore in quake. I think the story of the game itself should be very vague an easy to comprehend but all the worlds you travel to should be vague and unkown
The basic story should be "find rune to find bad demon" or "you're son. Find rune to find ranger." and i guess you can have some skipable cutscenes with that

Since they did Doom eternals dlcs in an episodic manner they could do the same for a quake reboot and just release 4 games if they want to add lore. Lore in doom eternals base game was handled poorly because you were just thrown in a world with a bunch of stuff going on that you didn't know anything about. But having a plan for multiple games makes the lore less forced imo
