yea its nice for crowds or creating traffic jams. You can force a lot of consistent infights without it though and some enemies like cart dogs basically always in fight
because theyre so wide another enemy always hits them lol

If I had to guess how it scales, my guess would be that it is doubled but is capped below the player's run speed so that no enemy can outrun the player

Dusk isn't quite as fast paced as UK imo but it's still lightning fast. Once you get into the groove of the game it's amazing

Also, strafehopping breaks the sound barrier
bunny hopping is very very easy in dusk, and moving diagonally also gains speed
so just jump forward while moving diagonally and you go very fast
also very much worth noting: if an enemy hits another with an attack (usually projectiles, unsure if they can land melees on each other) they start to fight each other

i need to replay E1
i played the game back in 2019 on i can take it, got stuck on the last boss of E1
i returned to it just last week and beat that boss on CM intruder, then ddi the last 2 episodes
admittedly E1 isn’t as good as the others, plus i wasn’t nearly as good or knowledgeable back then
so i gave up on it
what a mistake i made
last boss of e1 has fucking insane damage output
24 per hit on I Can Take It, fuller auto attack speed
I think the worst dick move is the wendigo on the e2m8 beginning rooms
He always gets me
i think e1m10 was balanced for a different difficulty setting than the rest of E1
the boss is far from unbeatable but the damage output is still fucking insane
their tracking is pretty poor tho, once you hit the speed cap like most enemies they track you much slower and can't hit you linearly

the welders honestly remind me of the caccodemons in doom eternal a lot. Really effective pressure enemies, but can be one shot if you use the right weapon. LIke, their purpose is to force you to focus on them, but if you know what to do, it's only a quick distraction

in Dusk you just click on shit and it dies, it's way easier
when i did my nightmare run about 2 months ago, caccos would absolutely fuck me up if they got close. Their three fireball attack also does like 180 damage if they all hit you, so you need to make sure they dont sneak up on you
cacodemons are kinda hard in eternal, easily one-shootable but in the DLC there’s a fight with 5 of them lmfao
As someone who didn't play Quake yet I meat to say that it feels like the best of both worlds from Doom and Half life aka the versatile and fun gunplay and lots of atmospheric locations and a good amount of mobility

Dusk dudes greed was not for treasure, but for answers, and he ends up forever damned because of it. Both the character and the player think they can just kill until the universe explains itself, with faith that the game will justify you ignoring all it's warnings. What happened to those scientists can't happen to you. You're stronger than them, BETTER than them. Kind of similar to how Jacob doesn't believe he is even capable of defeat until his last moments

I will give you an opinion.
I like dusks singleplayer because of multiple reasons. If you enjoy oldschool shooter gameplay the dusk is a game that absoloutly nailed it. The movement is basic and responsive but you can take it further with strafe jumping and other stuff. The guns feel impactful, are fun to use and each serve a certain purpose. The enemies aren't bullshit and fill basic enemy designs while having good visual and practical design. The levels are extremly atmospheric and immersive. Episode 2 and 3 are where it gets crazy and harder but i wont spoil it because it REALLY subverts your expectations without being cliche like other games. The real star of the show are the levels which all have incredibly design (again it gets better the longer you play) and ironically feel more like real places than the levels in AAA games because you can interact with them in a lot of ways like picking things up or breaking shit which seems like a minor bonus but again such a simple thing was nailed which made it feel even better. There are cleverly hidden secrets, shortcuts and the levels are just fucking great seriously i just want to play through the game again because im typing this.
I also like the multiplayer. It is some of the fastest skill demanding action fps i've ever played which mostly comes from it being an arena fps which automatically gives it some demanding strategy. There are weapon switching combos, Map control and overall strafehopping around and shooting shit makes me feel cool as fuck and it just feels extremely fast and fun. #lfg-signup if you want to find some games for it. I've put 400 hours into this game because of the multiplayer

Most of us like it for the nostalgia and the combat. It's all for the combat,really. It's not rare to see a boomer shooter nowadays now that there's a shit ton of them,but it's rare to see one that nails it right,only rivalled by ultrakill that is unsurprisingly,published by the same publisher

All these toxicity is probably coming from the fact that dusk is the most boomer one out of the bunch
also imo E1 is worse than the other 2 eps by a mile, both in gameplay and storytelling
i lost interest in dusk my first time around too
it wasn’t until i returned to it 2 years later and basically skipped E1 (i started where i left off from last time) that i started loving it
I actually really liked the countryside setting of ep1
Though mt favorite is probably the gothic castles in ep3
E2 is my fave
i really like E2’s intro level
you’re approaching the factory and it looks like it has insane heavy artillery on your ass
with all the fireballs being thrown your way from across the map
then you enter the place and it’s actual enemies
The gravity fuckery in e3 Homecoming is really fucking with me
Hey, are there still dusk multiplayer matches happening on this server?
It's a perfect escalation of the retro fps, weapons are really fucking great, enemies are also really fantastic and I love how they are like 3 different factions, even if they do work together. I love the music the level design. I love the heavy Pennsylvania feels and also the heavy industrial aesthetic, I like being able to knock back projectiles with sickles. Levels are extremely repayable and memorable. I love the possessed soldiers specifically. I like the mink bosses and the full bosses. I love the mix of fast paced combat and atmospheric tension, I love the mutiplayer and endless mode. I just love it. Oy thing I really dobt like is episode 3 can be a bit too different for my tastes, doesnt feel like it's from the same game as the other episodes, though that does make it extremely memorable.
Hell even the story is really ficking god, yeah it's simple as hell but that in no way makes it bad, and I especially love jakob as a villain.

New here, but just curious: if I'm having issues with the game launching on Linux, would anyone be able to help out?
I've been trying to get Dusk running for a few hours now and doing some troubleshooting. With GoG version 1.6, every time i try to start the game it's a black screen, no faux DOS like normal. I can hear the start menu music but all the visuals are replaced by a faded olive green color taking up the entire display. Even though I can't see them I can flip around between the various items in the menu, and the color will change from olive to black, then back again when I select something else. It seems to be affecting only the latest version though, as i had an offline backup of version 1.5 available and it works fine. The issue isn't exclusive to GoG either, as it seems to be affecting the Steam version as well, and it happens on multiple distros. The Windows versions of the latest build are unaffected and work fine. Is this something I'd need to contact the developers with, and if so, does anyone know the easiest way to do that?
I may be wrong, but I vaguely remember someone else having a similar issue and it was because of the resolution being stuck at 1x1 pixels or something

I don't think Dusk is a movement shooter. You move fast but it's very simple movement.
I always loosely defined movement shooters as shooters where movement is the main gameplay focus or shooters that have side branched into having their own movement modes. Something like Cyber hook, Quake Defrag, Reflex race maps, etc. Not just shooters with good movement in them
I do really wish dusk movement had just a bit more depth to it though.

I always defined movement shooters as games in which your tools for movement (double jumps, slides, wall runs) are mechanically as deep and as intensive as any combat mechanics. still a high skill ceeling tho. The movement is simple in theory but there is still a lot of depth when it comes to dodging and how to actually move in fights. Most games dont give you the same spontanious mobility even if they're fast so dodging a rivet feels more like dodging and attack in a fighting game.
eh it would make the game to much like everything else even within it's subgerne. If you want momentum there's a bunch of arena shooters that already do that. Dusks movement feels more "arcady" and has it's own levels of depth when it comes to dodging and positioning that other games dont have
it does have a high skill ceeling in multiplayer at least. The movement still allows for dodging that you wouldn't typically see in other shooters.
if you have bad movement you will always die because of the weapons being so powerful. If you walk in a straight line behind a wall a good player will kill you if they have a crossbow

i've killed a lot of players because they had predictable movement even tho they were behing a wall and i didn't even see them because i crossbowed them

in Dirty bomb i used to frequently add wall jumps into my dodge and im one of the only players on my level that actually uses the wall jump in dodge in warfork. Same thing with some parts of dusk where you can jump of of steep slopes like erebus and the stones on clifftop
i'd say it goes further than most other boomer shooters. Especially when you consider how easy it is to gain speed and rocket jump (because it only deals 5 damage if you have any armor). Obviously it has been a part for a long time but not doing it in dusk mp will literally get you instakilled

it gets sapped pretty quickly but it absorbs a good chunk of damage too so it encourages to look around some areas more which is cool and gamer

Ok, probably not a popular opinion, but replaying the game for achievements rn, and Erebus reactor is my least favorite level in episode 2, even if the ending almost makes up for it
I really like the more claustrophobic levels and looking for secrets. Erebus just feels overwhelming to me. It feels too big, with too much going on. I also really dislike how if you fall in the pit you are almost guaranteed to die. There have been times where I spent almost half an hour clearing out the entire, massive arena, getting every secret, and then I mistime a jump and lose it all. Was super frustrating my first playthrough. The end of the level is excellent though, with the reveal being one of my favorite moments in the game. I don't think it's a bad level at all, I just don't care for it personally
I will admit that I like the verticality, and how much it encourages movement, but with how nearly half the floor is a deathtrap I'm always hesitant to really start b hopping the way I do in other levels
There is a teleporter, but when I fall in it's usually disorienting and by the time i find it I'm dead, especially if I'm low on health after clearing out the level

Maybe E3M3, lots of verticality, open spaces and interiors, a ton of cool secrets, and the cool twist of the map getting flooded is a nice twist
you can bhop on lava and you don't get damage
but i agree the level is kind of exhausting
to me it just feels like a big square with buildings in it
not everywhere
some damage spaces reach higher than others
it's actually all over the place
there's one in E3M8 that is so low that you have to duck for it to damage you
and there are some that reach high enough for jumping not to save you from them
also if I remember correctly even low-reaching ones you can jump away from can occasionally damage you because you will still spend a tiny bit of time cose enough to the ground

Climbing things are items that you can get softlocked without, so that's probably the reason they respawn. But this is also true for the thermal suit in maps like E3M2, yet thermal suits don't respawn

I have dusk sdk i (think it’s called that) so I just have to put the mod in one of the game folders I’ll look it up
yeah. On steam you can toggle between the betas. Just make sure to screenshot or back up your settings before you do because it resets stuff like keybindings, mouse sens and things to default
I just opt into the sdk beta when I wanna do custom maps, and opt out of betas (to get the most recent build of the game) when I wanna play vanilla dusk

sound helps with the deer a lot, you can hear them breathing when they get close, and there's a sound cue when they spawn
it also helps to look for bloody footprints, they leave them when they walk, and sometimes you can see them knocking things over in the arena

like E2M1, you meet 3 rats before you get a gun
and idk about y’all but rats are basically impossible to melee without taking a hit for me

It's all doable Duskmare but like you said before it really changes how you play. Duskmare feels artificially hard, while CM stays more fun imo because it allows for more creative or faster strats.
DM is more of a joke difficulty but i do genuinely enjoy it at times
then i forget shit like the fight in E1M9 with two fork maidens

Knowing wave order and keeping your pspeed capped helps. Worst are the soldier and goat waves. But it's more mental I think. It sounds scarier on paper
i had a lot of issues on E3M9 on CM
specifically the doctor/grand wizard wave kicked my ass
I use sword and mortar on those waves. Poke the grand mages and mortar the doctor group
best thing to do in that wave is to continuously jump off the map while slowly killing the wizards
takes care of the homing projectiles
there is nothing more satisfying than gibbing a horde of fodder enemies in Dusk.

That wave kicked my ass too until I remembered you can deflect projectiles with the sickles
Homing attacks with no solid level geometry is just cruel
a friend of mine noted a minor issue with game feel that i thought would be cool to see addressed
when you gib an enemy, they don't play a death line
if you don't see an enemy get gibbed you cannot tell what enemy got killed, compared to if they died normally
i know for some enemies, such as grunts, would be a bit odd to hear a scream from after death, but it'd be a lot better for gameplay
