The performances lifted the most in this film. Judi Dench, Kate Winslet, even Jim Broadbent won an Oscar for this.
The story stays small and personal, and I liked that. It moves between past and present smoothly, and the second half hits because it is earned not forced. It never tries to do too much, it just focuses on what matters.
