my guess is that he's closing that loop and he'll take on something even more ambitious
he's walking the derren brown/david blaine path
he's a mashup of those guys and what they've done but also completely mixing in his own unique awkward comedic, self-referential self, fully embraced who he is
while i never wanted to be a magician i was super enamored with brown and blaine many years ago, they played around with reality and what is possible on a level nobody else was at the time, feels like nathan was the same in terms of inspired by them but now he's actually doing his own variation
i'd expect we'll see increasing scale and ambition as long as hbo keeps enabling him

nathan is basically a new form of magician we've never seen before, and since we haven't seen it, its hard to have words for it

the hivemind people pretty much perfectly exemplify the helpful ideal of AI and it appears also the honestly part (we'll have to see how that plays out tho), but i think they destroy any idea of harmless here
not only are they willing to give carol or the others nuclear weapons, but they reproduce against the consent of the individuals who they take over
so this comparison works on some levels, but falls apart on an important one
one question i've been mulling over is if this hive mind only replicated by consent and didn't help people access ways to cause destruction or harm others, but was only helpful in harmless ways, would it still be morally objectionable?||

||also we know vince wrote this before the emergence of AI, so i think it was primarily more about raw individualism vs collectivism, and all the AI stuff just kind of comes along for the ride because the AI stuff kind of works on a lot of fundamental levels of being human||

its interesting because not only in this discord but in lots of twitter/reddit posts i saw people pointing out that the hivemind was AI, but never saw a single person talk about religion
the religion angle makes a lot more sense b/c of the idea that the core goal is spreading and infecting new minds, while also wanting "whats best for the person" (which didnt make sense from an current AI perspective)
