#What is Art?

One of the movements of the book was about art in a relgious manner. That "good" and "true" art must be relgious as we live in a relgious world. And it sort of triggered some trauma in that vain, not in a bad way, but more of yes, I know that ideal and how odd it is
One thing Tolstoy constantly notes, almost annoyingly, is that art is something that is understood by all. I don't think there is truly a peice of art that all can 1 understand 2 find good
And he notable contradicts himself when talking about art of cultures he is not apart of and thus can not understand, is still art, and good art
I imagine "art" to be any form of expression. If there's an idea in your head and you take action to put it forth into the world -- that's art.
I wouldn't imagine it needs to be accessible, or even good. I think the important bit is that it was made with intent
I think art is too subjective for anyone to grasp entirely. Even the artist, creating their piece, cannot understand it -- as every person that comes into contact with it interprets it through their own lens, the art itself accumulates meaning, beyond the understanding of any one person

Art is subjective. It's open to interpretation. That's what makes it beautiful.

Oooh
THIS IS TRUE
Art for me is less defined by what it is rather than why it is
Art is made because if a person doesn't make it then something deep inside them will always feel wrong
i think a great question for me is : artefacts <> art ?
because i am a graceful idiot like alberto caeiro the shepard who sees "beauty" in everything , so i do have to* wonder sometimes if my so broad view might be too inclusive
a shoe is art - if it was made by a designer or a factory worker
and so on
I was a musician need to make music or else I can't live a worthwhile life
Something will always be off
And now that I know what that is I can't go back
yea can hardly imagine a world where music isnt as easily accessible as today
nietzsche sounds obvious nowadays but hearing a professional violin player compositions (("not church shit")) was real privilege back then
even ""church shit"" is nice too
Not even that though
the drive to create music , yes?
In almost all my free time when I'm not doing anything and just sitting there I find myself making rhythm with my hand
It's been a constant annoyance for my teachers actually
😅
But art is something that exists not to do anything but because if it didn't then life would be miserable
It's not made for the outcome but for the process
sure
i write because i must -- every writer will tell you that hahah
even though they are too lazy to actually write , when the words finally come out it does feel amazing the entire time
I write because brain have too many thoughts
What thinh of Neitzche you are talking about here?
