more ram doesn't always mean better. if your server is actually slowing down, you can create a spark report to see what could be causing it

For non 1.21+ Paper Servers: Download spark.lucko.me and install it as a plugin or mod (depending on your server software).
Note: 1.21+ Paper Servers have Spark pre-installed

For constant lag: Run the command spark profiler start --thread * --timeout 30
For severe momentary lag spikes: Run the command spark profiler start --thread * --only-ticks-over 100 --timeout 300
