#Revamp the Minehut Discord

The Minehut Discord is the most active form of communication across the Minehut community. This is a space that should be active and very fun, yet in recent times it has fallen into inactivity and become a bit of a shell of what it used to be years ago.

I propose these changes all to both make the discord easier to navigate & nicer on the eye, and also promote the community aspect of this discord in an effort to revive its activity.

Preferential refers to things that I would prefer happen, but I would understand if they don't, whereas everything else I believe should happen confidently.

alarm SECTION #1: Channels alarm

  • Remove the GamerSafer Meet & Greet QnA channel
This event has ended, the channel is just kind of awkwardly taking up space.

  • Remove #1080829538348568608 & make it a single, centralised post within #1006335650917793882
This channel isn't really used enough and it has one sole purpose.

  • PREFERENTIAL: Rename #1006335650917793882 to just #feedback
I feel like this name is easier on the eye and I feel like the request is kind of unnecessarily clear.

  • PREFERENTIAL: Rename #job-board to its old name, #marketplace.
It's quite similar to #1006335650917793882 and the old name was better.

  • PREFERENTIAL: Rename #random to something like #off-topic and make it possibly serve the same purpose as other channels (like #gamersafer or #jamies-office)
These channels all take up space and space is something I want Minehut to cut down on in the sidebar. I feel like having them all in one space would be fine.

  • Remove #server-ads and keep it all in #1082700881360859136 or vice versa.
There's really limited reason for these to be separate channels.

  • Merge #resource-packs with an art channel and make it just "art"
The resource packs channel is very inactive and the art channel is a popular channel that was removed a long time ago. These purposes aren't too different and I feel they could very much share the same space.

  • PREFERENTIAL: Remove #1027009214478028821 and keep it all in #skript-chat
I get that Skript is an active channel but.. do we really need a help forum?

blue_alert SECTION #2: Rule Changes blue_alert

  • Return image permissions to users.
Image permissions were removed a long time ago during a time where paid moderators had just been removed and there were few people moderating. I would like image permissions to return to everyone now that we have sufficient volunteers to fill that gap in moderation.

  • Establish written rules for #1006335650917793882
Some base rules that I would suggest:

No necroposting (replying to a post that has not been replied to in 30 days or another timespan)
Keeping it purely constructive and feedback-based in channels (to avoid users instigating arguments and trolling for no reason)
Remove duplicate posts

alarm SECTION #3: Reviving the Discord alarm

  • Reoccurring message in the Minehut lobby about the Minehut discord.
Ideally, this would just be a simply 1 line message maybe like "Join the official Minehut discord at discord.gg/Minehut and have it be a clickable link

  • Centralise most information IN this discord
Somewhat already done, but I want this to be clearly set out.

  • Return of the Events team.
Requires a much bigger post to explain.

  • Limited time discord or in-game events.
e.g. Promotion of the raid feature by having a lot of people raid at once.

  • Sort out the discord roles.
This is something I need another post for.

  • Return & revamp of testers.
    Giving out the rank again

[End Post]

Maybe also add a rule for #1006335650917793882 about no bumping, those just take up space for no good reason.

#

As an artist, I don't think an art channel is worth returning since the main issues were that the frequent artists would complain about random junk being posted there even though those were also technically allowed. It brought unnecessary arguments about what's really art. Also, people would definitely use that channel for AI generated images and then go "it's art"

If it's moderated properly I could see it working but it's a bit 50/50 tbh

Ye, but on that line, not all mods are actually interested in art, let alone interested enough to moderate generated stuff out, maintain discussions around "what's really art" versus stickman junk, stuff they didn't actually make, etc.

#

We'd really only see a small handful of people being frequent there

marketplace indeed sounds much nicer
I agree with most of this, HOWEVER, skript threads are important and very active

#

dealing with an issue on a timespan of 2-3 days does happen and would be completely impossible in the non-thread skript channel

digital ridge
#

Keep it as threads but remove the general channel

#

Just turn that into a pinned thread if people really want it to stay or sum

(One thing I'd like to do is keep this very clean, so if you have any small messages it might be best to expand on them or not add them here. I also would prefer if people would use the 👍 reaction to agree rather than posting a message)

(This applies to you too, Ducky)

How I think of it is #skript-chat is a generic/general channel for skript help and knowledge while #1027009214478028821 is for more specific skript questions/help

zinc berry
#

Hence the Preferential tag

solid dove
#

I think both should stay I don't care too much about #gamersafer or the gamersafer stage channel or #jamies-office but I don't know if admin Jamie would like that channel to be removed or not

#

It would be nice for image perms but are the volunteers really ready for that?? I mean people used to spread pretty bad images

zinc berry
#

I mean.. I made this post as a volunteer lol

solid dove
#

True

#

I like all the suggested changes apart from the #skript-chat #1027009214478028821 thing problem with servers forum though is you'd have to have a active chat in your forum to be shown higher and you cant like create another post

#

I think #1082700881360859136 was more for like announcing updates or events for your server but maybe I'm thinking of it completely wrong

#

If image perms do get added back should be only in #general and #random so there doesn't need to be like a moderator per channel those two places is really where you want to send images (of course #skript-chat and #1027009214478028821 as well but they have image perms already)

#

Well I guess you kinda need moderators everywhere anyway

#

The filter doesn't always block everything

#

I like these changes besides the skript ones

#

They both serve different purposes

zinc berry
#

Yeah I now understand the skript thing even if I don't particularly care too much about it myself
