So the problem isn't the actual joycon, it's the fact that the right side of my switch's joycon connector thing (picture below) just doesn't register the joycon. This problem has persisted with both my current switch and original switch.

You sure you somehow haven't shorted the wrong contacts?

Sometimes it connects
Even if it doesn't it still shows the joycon connection on the screen
